laker67 Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 If you are planning on fishing any of the trout parks this coming weekend, you might want to re=schedule. FishnDave 1
fishinwrench Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 I was thinking that we still had one more weekend of it. Guess not. I'm really looking forward to Spring. 😊 laker67 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 With single digit high temps I’d pass anyway. Sigh. laker67 1

I have to psych myself up for 30 minutes just to go get the mail. I haven't peeked over the hill to verify it yet, but I'd say that the upper Gravois iced over solid last night. And now we have yet another full week of polar activity in the forecast. This sucks! 😢 laker67 1
jdmidwest Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Cold not make up its mind yesterday. Started spitting snow at 30. Temps dropped to 25 then freezing rain. Could not keep it off windshield unless I squirted de icer. Looks like another coat of sleet last nite after dark. Brrr. But have to get out an work in it all day again. laker67 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

Forty years ago I would not even blink an eye about the temps. Harv and I fished the high bank hole one day back in the 80's. It was 4* when we started, and 6* about four hours later. A few trips back to the truck to warm up and we fished most of the day. High bank had several good fish back then. If you could keep ice out of the guides you could land them that day. trythisonemv and BilletHead 2

I have some pictures of me and my buddy at Taney and in the background the dam is iced over. We whacked em swinging soft hackles. One of the best big fish days on small flies ever. Took us 10 hours to get back home due to ice on the roads. Anymore I pick my battles.😀 Quillback, FishnDave, laker67 and 2 others 5
Quillback Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Nope, not going. February is one of the best months for a shot at a big bass here in the Bella Vista lakes, maybe it will warm up by the last week in Feb. May have to wait for the ice to go out too. laker67, slothman, bfishn and 2 others 5
Foghorn Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 All those years working on the railroad made it easier to handle the extreme cold when fishing . My best 2 fishing buddies died ,one in 1997 and he other in 1999 and found then that most of the other boys didn't want to go when the temps dropped. Have found now that I don't enjoy it as much and rarely go when they're calling for really cold temps. Think coldest opening day we fished was maybe 1979 with minus 10 degrees and snow at Montauk. Fished Taney with the wind chill at minus 40 with Mr. Fuji( kids thought he looked like the wrestler). You could still use bait below the dam and he constantly spilled/dropped the old pellet bait in the water. He had schools of fish within 2 feet of him making it difficult for me to fly fish unless I got away from him. I quit when I started having trouble feeling my little fingers. He died in 1997 laker67 1
