Is it just me, or are these Urgent Care centers popping up everywhere? Actually, I kind of like the convenience.

Hospitals are full of sick people and hi tech equipment.  Good for the big stuff.  Urgent care is for the sniffles and easy stuff.  Full of low paid nurse practitioners.  My Cancer Dr had me go to them when I needed a script.  Beat the drive back to St. Louis.  Just went in, tell them my problem, get my script and go.  Did not meet one that had ever saw what I had done to me.  Even went back and the same NP was there, forgot she had ever saw what I had done to me.

BTW, its best to know what is wrong with yourself before you go into one.

I've always been sent to my doctor or hospital.  Myself, wife and kids.  I have no use for them.

Ihave used them, pretty handy for things that don't really need the full ER.  Sinus infection to get a script is good one, or even a broken arm, if not a bad break,  quick xray, painkiller script and admonishment to follow up with dr.

Yeah, a few of them have popped up around here, not a bad thing and it takes some of the load off the ER's.  Know a nurse that used to work in the ER and one of her pet peeves were the people that would come into the ER looking for treatment for a cold.

ER sucks, and it is expensive.  Insurance hates them.  Made for the bad stuff, need to be dying when you go there.

My original visit with the cancer was to the ER, advised to do so by my dentist that laid the news on me.  I walked into the ER and asked to see the Oncologist on Duty per his instructions.  I received special treatment and maxed out my deductible that one visit.  The rest was on my insurance. They actually passed me on to Wash U in St. Louis instead of trying to get my insurance dollars there.  It saved me.

I still use their prompt cares for any minor thing.

I got poison ivy on my sack and my right eye was swelling shut Monday morning. I was awful glad urgent care could get me in and shot up with steroids. I'd still be waiting on my normal doctor to get me in

Had a bout with poison ivy last year...no fun
