Laura n Sullivan is highest volume dealer I believe.   I have a 2013 ram 1500 Laramie with 151k on it.  Pulls my jet boat like nothing.
I drove GMCs since I hired in in 1985.   Got tired of engine lights once they all hit 100k.  Ram has been the best truck I’ve ever owned out of 6.
Toyota holds value hands down more than any other vehicle.   That is a fact.
Scotty Kilmer on YouTube says get the Ford 150 with a coyote engine.  4 million subscribers and over a billion views.  Pretty legit source for auto related issues.
He loves Toyota too.  Hates GM and Ram.  Especially the engines that shut down 4 cylinders when not needed.  mine has that feature but I run it in tow/haul mode all the time so it doesn’t do that.
I would sell outright before trading.  Especially a 4Runner.

Scotty is a little bit of a knucklehead too. He used to have a video about using compression fittings for brake lines, which has since been removed, but is a big no-no. A lot of his content is generalized, dumbed down, and not as black and white as he makes it seem.

He is right about the Coyote though. A V8 that spends most of it's time loafing is under much less stress and wear than a turbo 4/6 cylinder that is doing the same amount of work with smaller components.

Yes a certain amount of showmanship is a given to be successful on YouTube.
I think he offers some quality advice on some things.
Never go with a smaller displacement hi pressure engine.  They just wear out quicker and require more maintenance.

Diesel trucks are great for heavy duty and long life.  Fuel cost is roughly equivalent to a gas truck but maintenance will eat your lunch.

^^^^^THIS^^^^^

$150 oil change vs. $50 oil change

$2k ball joints every 50k miles vs. maybe never ball joints

Steering components, brakes more $$$ and more often with the diesel.

Tires!

DEF fluid, fuel gelling in cold weather.

Not to mention the $11k premium when you buy the truck.

All reasons I went back to a gasser after 11 years with the Cummins.

Yes, now is the time to sell your vehicle if you don't want or need it! I had posted earlier about the pos I have and couldn't fix. I finally ended up buying a subaru so I put that truck up for sale. Sold it within 48 hours of posting and got what I wanted for it. I thought about posting it here for sale, but I didn't want to put my fellow fisherman through that! lol My neighbor bought a brand new dodge challenger for listed 40K two years ago and the dealership where he bought his offered to buy it back for 39K. Crazy!

I don't see why diesel vs. gas would make any difference in tire cost. They make gas duallies too.

Diesels cost more to buy, but also hold that value better, that's more or less a wash.

You're right about everything else though.

Fuel is more or less a wash unless the diesel is hooked to something and pulling hard 90% of the time. That diesel may get 20% better fuel economy unloaded, but diesel usually costs at least that much more at the pump than gas.

Cummins engines are heavy.  The extra weight causes everything in the front suspension to wear faster than it would on a truck with a gas engine.

That's crazy good. Other buddy got a diesel sierra and loves it. Gets 680 miles on a tank and averages 22 mpg in the city, 28-30 on the highway. Got it for $43k

My best friend just bought a diesel GMC Denali 3/4. Took 4 months to get it, and it cost double of what your buddy got his Chevy for. He had to order it out of Illinois.   On the drive home from the dealer back to Camdenton, Mo. he said he didn’t push it and it got exactly 35 mph. over the road empty.
He just retired and the Denali was a gift to himself. 67 years old and the first new truck he ever bought.  It’s a beauty and friggin loaded.

If your worried about a measly $150 for an oil change, don’t buy a Volvo, BMW Lexus, Audi or Mercedes. Once a year fitness check on my wife’s Mercedes depending on if an A or B service runs either $300 or $600.
They do however give her a complimentary car for the day and all the pastry’s and drinks she wants while she waits🤪🤩🤣

Sometimes you just gotta throw worrying about the cost to the wind and just get a big darn truck.

Yep, hauling my bigger sized equipment around in a 4 Runner isn’t cutting it. I love the 4 runner but that 6 cylinder just doesn’t cut it sometimes.
