Put it against a wall, block off other access.  Use some peanut butter.

Double trap tonight!

I might suggest a pecan or peanut wedged in the trap pan tight or even superglued to it. I ran a trap line at the cabin we just stayed at a few nights ago in Wisconsin. Caught one for the air B&B hosts. The little thieves can and will lick the peanut butter without setting trap off. That is what was used there. :)

He sets off the trap but jumps backwards out of it.  I’m gonna put another trap just opposite of it so if he jumps back it will be into the other trap.  Ole Vern is a slickster.  😂

I was using a rat trap to get rid of  some chipmunks. Tearing up jack on back porch. I caught the wazoo out of mice on them actually. I think doin the same thing as Vern. Jumping  back but with the added space from big jaws it got em.

We use peanut butter and probably have a 50 to 60% catch rate. That goes up when we have the trap set in a pathway or have items to funnel them into the trap.

"..have the trap set in a pathway or have items to funnel them into the trap." Worked for raccoons and cats as well.
