I stopped at Rally's across from the University today to grab a quick bite between customers.  Young feller in front of me.  I struck up a conversation with him, Freshman coming in getting ready to start his college life.  Sparked the thought, 40 years ago today, I parked my 67 Cougar in the gravel parking lot across the road from this new burger joint.  Lugged my stuff 3 blocks to the dorm where I camped for my college years.  The gravel lot that was named by the University was called the "Pig Lot".  Its now the Show Me Center Event lot.  I drove over and eat my lunch.  And fixated on the only comment that the young lad had, "I am pretty stressed out, don't know if I will get my food before the shuttle bus leaves across the street".

He has alot of living to do to make it to where I am today.

The middle kid was loading her car yesterday to go set up her apartment in SPFLD.

I was tending to some things in the shop.  I noticed that after each trip from house to car she'd stop in front of the shop and just stand there, hands on hips, like she was about to say something....but never did.

When she got all loaded and was ready to leave she gave me a hug and sarcastically thanked me for helping her load her car. 😂

Why the hell she thought it was MY JOB to be her pack mule, I have no idea.  🙄

Dad of the Year

Yeah Well, Dad of the year had to set her and a couple of her pals down and point out that everytime that they were planning to go do ANYTHING.....the #1 consideration was always what they were going to drink, and how they were going to aquire it.  And how it concerned me and her mom that no fun can be had without liquor.

What good is a higher education if you're dead or in jail ?    They didn't have an answer.  Hopefully it made them at least think about it. 🙄

Of course I had to answer to "You know you did the same thing".....and yeah I did.   But there's a big difference between being out on a big lake in somebody's parents yacht, and being out in the middle of somebody's corn field on a country road.  And we didn't ALWAYS drink, we did plenty of things 100% sober.

My daughter's group don't drink much.  They did as freshman but it kind of wore off.  They had two floats trips last week and nobody drank on either one.  It seems to be a thing where kids are getting away from alcohol.   Along with not driving.  My daughter drives and loves it but she has friends in their 20's and they still don't have a license.  Things change with every generation.

When I attended, I stayed in Residence Halls every year and summer the last few in apartments that my buddies vacated for the summers.

You could have firearms on campus when I went.  I kept one rifle or a shotgun in a locker of the Hall Supervisor.  Bows and airguns were in the rooms.  I had a dart board on the door and a Crosman 177 pump pistol that did darts that I practiced with.  Had to make sure the door was locked.  About drilled a few coming in while playing.  We shot bows above an outdoors shop on Broadway in an old indoor range.  I think we paid $5 a month for that.  I used local MDC areas that had just opened up for small game and playing around.

Alcohol had to be sneaked in.  905 Liquor had the best deal and we could return the bottles for a 5 cent refund.  Girls were off limit too, had to sneak them in for an overnighter.

Most of the residents were from St. Louis and I taught them many things.  I was the redneck of the floor.  The creative one that came up with many entertaining ideas.

Appreciate that.   Thanks 👍

Right now she needs a boyfriend with a good sense of humor and a strong back.

I don’t know any of those that aren’t latched onto but seriously you know you or her can call me if she ever needs anything. We might bicker but I’d be there if needed.
