Once they are dialed into a technique, Why in the world do they have 10 - 12 rods out all the time ?

wouldn't 6 be plenty?

I refuse to fish with more than about 4 rods on the deck. It just doesn't take that long to unsleeve one and pull it out of the rod box, or to resleeve one and put it up. I wear size 15 shoes. Nuff said. 😆 😂

Ham, both you and James are totally correct, just makes no sense.

James, at one time and they still may didn't BASS limit the number of rods a participant could have in the boat?

Pretty sure MLF doesn't conspire to this rule.

I don't know diddly squat about frog fishing, but good grief I'd be out of sticks in an hour breaking them at that rate.

And I think you know pretty well what you're going to be fishing.
if I was on the frog thing, I MIGHT hate 4 rods out at the Max. Two colors or styles of frogs, a fluke, and something to pitch or flip with.

I think they have damaged the rods stepping on them and mishandling them. You're 100 % correct that it is a terrible look for the rod makers though.

Bill, I know that when I was covering the old Ray Scott days of BASS and traveling to the BASS Masters Classic every year, the anglers were limited to (I believe it was 6 rods/reels) and 10 pounds of tackle. Harold Sharp was tournament director back then (just before Dewey Kendrick) and each angler's tackle had to fit into a possum belly PLANO tackle box that was provided for them. There were two official practice days and on the second one, each angler had to bring his tackle box up onto the stage to be weighed. If he was over by even a smidge, Harold removed tackle (his choice of lures) until the box was at exactly 10 pounds. It was a fun deal. Mike may or may not remember those days. Can't recall when he fished his first Classic and the dang bassmaster.com website has a "join BASS" pop-up that blocks two-thirds of their screen and seemingly can't be ignored.
On another nostalgic note, I see that Lonnie Stanley passed away Monday. Such a classy guy. Never got to fish with him but always enjoyed my time around him. Always had a smile plus one to give whoever he was talking with at the time. His jigs and spinnerbaits were top shelf and accounted for a lot of tournament wins for anglers worldwide.

At least three right here. Best spinnerbait ever made.

Before War Eagle came along, I threw the old Stanley Vibra-shaft nearly all the time. Caught tons of fish on them in all kinds of conditions.

Didn't care for the wedge blade that came along later. Made the bait tend to roll.

Graphite is kinda brittle material and at least in fly rods any bump or bang on the outside may result in damage/spalling to the inside of the rod, not visible from the outside,  that causes later failure. A fly hook colliding with the rod on a bad forward cast is said to have caused many fly rod failures. I can imagine that stepping on a rod does it no good, but, simply banging it sharply against any hard object puts the rod at risk.

Articles I've read indicate that if the rod breaks into two pieces, it is almost always the result of a previous impact. It's also said that if the rod breaks at 12-18" from the tip that it's from high sticking and that if it breaks in several places at the same instant it is from overloading.

Anytime I see someone with more than one rod out, I just assume that he is trying to get them broken so he can have an excuse to buy new. I've only broken 12-15 rods over ~60 years though so I haven't yet discovered all the ways to get it done.

I have a very good friend who was really close to Lonnie.  Last year, I was talking about needing to really stock up on jigs and was joking about if they were so close, why couldn't he get Lonnie to hook me up.  About 5 days later there was a box on my front porch from Lonnie Stanley.  I went to grab it really quick and it weighed a ton.  Went inside and opened it up to find probably 100+ jigs, several spinnerbaits, and a note from Lonnie congratulating me for putting up with his friend.  It blew my mind.  Such a great generous guy.  I hated to hear the news of his passing last week.

That's awesome, Royal. I've never heard a bad word about Lonnie and your story is a fine tribute to his legacy as a classy guy.
