Thanks Travis, I tied on about a 6 foot section of 2 pound leader to my 4 pound mainline bit i think with how many people swear by 2 pound im going to go ahead and setup a rig with 2 pound mainline and start practicing with that...i do think the thinner line helps get the jig down quicker as well.

When you're doing the microjig under a float are you just trowing it out and letting it sit/move in the wind? Or do you twitch it along with a slow retrieve?

When I cast it out I give it time to get down then I do a twitch and stop deal all the way back to the boat.  Trout will take the float down but often you will just see the float move ever so slightly, make sure to set the hook when you see that happen as they don't always pull it under like a crappie would.  So pay close attention to that float.  For what it's worth I like to use an 8 ft spinning rod when throwing a "jig and float" as it helps with not only the cast but the hookset as well.

Thanks Seth, makes sense..with no water running, what weight jig are you throwing? Do you count it down? Or are you just waiting until you feel bottom before you start jigging?

I typically throw 1/16oz but will have 1/8oz ready for the deeper holes. A lot of guys like 1/32oz, but I just can’t get a feel for that one. It’s too light for my tastes.

Are you going to be down Tuesday and Wednesday of this week? Me and a buddy are coming down mid day Tuesday and coming back Thursday morning. Lilleys was full so we are staying at Lazy Valley. We'll be in a black Legend SS with orange decals and a 150 Etec outboard jet so you can't miss us.

Seth - yep we are down until next Sunday, I will look for you ....bring all of your trout skills this week....is has been a little humbling!

Travis is right about the 8' pole and 2lb line....I became a believer years ago in 2 lb line... and that is all I fish with....it can be a real PITA to tie a jig or whatever when everything is wet....the 8' pole does give you better leverage, but I have also done well on the Lilley's 6' special. The key is to watch the float, keep slack out of the line - and if the water is clear many times you can see the jig or pink worm....when it disappears set the hook.

The weight of the jig depends on water flow...the slower or no generation the smaller weight. I learned how to "snap" the rod by watching Phil's reports....that is an incredible effective technique.

We got out for the last few hours before dark and it was slower than I expected. We only boated 15 fish. My best was only 16”, but my buddy caught three that were 17-18”. He had two 20-22” class rainbows follow his jerkbait but they never committed to biting. I think half came from trophy area and the others came in the last 30 minutes near Short Creek. Most came on jigs but ye got a few on the jerkbait.

I think we may go back up to the Narrows and toss jerkbaits around after eat. Depends how bad our food coma is.

Had a decent first night. Both of us cracked 20” on bows. Followed up my 20.5” with my second best, a solid 19”. Caught most on black jigs again but several did eat the jerkbait.

We fly fished today between the Narrows and Point Royale from 10am - 4pm and did decent on white mega worms. Even lucked in to my new fly rod PB with this 20.5” rainbow.

Great looking fish there....we had similar success but it was really slow for us....my best time  was before 6 a.m. up by Fall Creek.

All were on a sculpin and olive jig
