Dutch Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 We got a late start cause I’m a sissy. I waited for 32° at my house before heading to Cape Fair. When we got there it was 29° and sunny. I had a jerker, a Ned and a shaky tied on. I went to a narly timbered point and threw the jerker. The surface temp was 54° and I just knew I would get bit there. My son in law was throwing Ned. Frustrated I picked up my watermelon red Zero and threw it where I had been working the jerk bait. On the first cast I caught a keeper spot. I started down the bank throwing the shaky. Real quick I had a keeper greenie. By then my son in law was throwing his shaky. We stayed on this bank for 2 hours and boated 18 bass with 5 nice keepers. A dozen or so places later we had caught 6 more bass. We hit lots of unproductive water and what spots produced only gave up 2 per place. I’m guessing it was a morning bite. The fish were from right on the bank to no deeper than about 15 feet. snagged in outlet 3, nomolites, Nick Adams and 10 others 12 1
Quillback Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 That's some good catching. I wimp out too when it is below 32, I try and time my winter trips to get to the ramp when it has gotten at least above 32.
Nick Adams Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 @Dutch I really love that your are dead-set on catching fish a certain way and then switch kill it w/ the Ned or Shaky Head every time. I know I always end up with my comfort baits, but I would take your bags 8 days a week. Always impressed with your results. Royal Blue and snagged in outlet 3 2

willyfish Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Sounds like the water has gotten cold enough to start cranking. Champ188 1
m&m Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Dutch, thanks for reminding us that there are fish to be caught shallower than 40 feet. Were those banks with the sun shining on them? Mike

I notice that ALL the boats in the Sunday morning derby head south. The bite must be a lot better near Aunts Creek! cheesemaster and Targa98 2

LOL 45 boats and only 13 to win. 7 for top 10. Was tough out there. We threw Everything and dropped everything we had. Had about 10 fish. 1 keeper and lost one Large fish! Any day on the water still beats any day at the desk!! magicwormman and m&m 2
