We'll never hear the rest of the story.  

My guess is that somebody wanted a computer and all of its files to disappear.   They aren't saying what kind of "government property" is missing...... but what else would it have been?

If they truly valued it, there would be surveillance footage.    

Even the Gravois Mills public boat ramp is surveilled 24/7/365 🙄

I doubt the cameras are good enough to see anything that small.  Carry on.
