All joking aside, any cat owner who lets cats out puts their pet at risk, many a tabby has met its end as an owl/hawk meal.

I like cats (better than dogs--I guess my psychology is closer to a cat's).  But I don't hesitate to shoot feral cats, for the very reasons described.  You can admire them as pretty cool critters and still know the effects they have on bird and wildlife populations.

Had a calico cat for many years, that we really loved.  She had a weight problem.  But it didn't keep her from killing birds, mice, voles, and chipmunks.  Think she also might have done a number on our flying squirrel population.  We kept her inside most of the time, but anytime we'd let her out she'd kill something.  I watched her stalk a group of adult hen turkeys going through the yard one time.  Here was this really fat, black, orange, and white cat, flattening herself to where her back wasn't 4 inches off the ground, and seemingly just oozing like the Blob toward those turkeys.  They finally saw her when she was almost within charging distance and calmly walked away.

My only valid complaint against cats is that they get a free pass in every town in America.    You ever hear of a "Cat Pound"?    No!

It's just like the man/woman thing.   A dirty old man digging through a dumpster is seen as a heathen, nobody reaches out to help him and the entire community just wants him GONE.    But let a dirty old woman be seen dumpster diving and the entire community comes together to buy her a house and fill it with clothing and groceries.      WTF ?   🙄

My ex's BFF helped run the Dogwood Animal Shelter.    Dogs in a cage out back.  Kitty's inside where it's either cool or warm (depending on the season).    

There was an incinerator out back.  No kitty's ever got to meet the incinerator..... only the dogs.  😟

I'm blown away by the SIZE and WEIGHT of the feral cats around here.   Relatively normal sized heads, but body's that are nearing bobcat size, and tails that are even longer than their body.   And as heavy as a cranking battery.   I honestly can only throw a dead one about 15ft.  

Had one the other day, was freak-in huge. On a squirrel, All of a sudden the cat fell over. I assumed it was from lead poison. Never had a atopies done. but had to be close to 25lbs. I took it to the critter grave yard at my neighbors.

Our neighborhood used to have a ton of rabbits running around. Now we have a bunch of cats. They aren’t feral. Just regular house cats that are allowed to roam freely. And everyone is fine with it. But my dog gets out and I’m a horrible human. If she was allowed to roam freely like the cats we wouldn’t have a cat problem here.

We have the same thing here.  Some of them go home with a present if they hang around my yard.
