You all got me searching about dry ice and coolers now.  Ran across this little bit of info.

I guess the main thing I got from this is dry ice for coolers if you are needing to keep things frozen.  Not really useful for just a cooler full of sandwiches, drinks, etc. that only need to stay cooled.  

 

This YouTube channel was also very interesting.  Lot of Tests on various coolers, variations, etc.

Never leave a cooler with dry ice in a closed car. The sumblimed CO2 can build up in the car making for a dangerous situation.

One of the bullet points in that article says dry ice melts faster than regular ice so its not recommended for long trips. I've got to look into this more or maybe experiment before I put all my eggs in one basket.

Dry does melt faster, that said  i use it only for stuff to stay frozen and pack the extra days ice in, it freezes the plain ice super hard so it stays for a few days longer, especially if using jugs.  That is my two cooler system.

Tip I picked up from a camping forum recently.  Put all of your dry items that you want to keep cool in a miniature trash can, that fits in the cooler.   Put the ice around the trash can. I'm kind of ashamed to admit I've never considered this. Think of sandwiches,  meat that may absorb the melted ice water, baggies with left overs etc.

I use Tupperware the same way.   Nothing worse than soggy bread and wet lunch meat.

I've had one ziplock leak, I've had two ziplocks leak, I've never had three ziplocks leak.  But use the real ones, not the Walmart etc brand.

I’ve never had Tupperware leak.  But moisture will build up in them.
