Did I ever tell you about the time I punted a pelican ?    It was like kicking an understuffed feather pillow.

Ya know they only have a body cavity the size of a crow.  They are all head, wings, and fluff.

  We were out driving around three weeks ago.  Near Montagaw Springs. Seen something dead in the ditch that just looked out of place. had Pat turn around to see what it was. Pelican. Head straight out and wings spread out. Tiny body. Figured one of those outlaws on the river shot it and decided not to cook it up.

Anyone one else here hook a pelican? darn nuisance birds on some FL piers. No such thing as catch and release when they are around. The one I hooked dove and ate my bait.. I tried to get as close as I could without the bird flogging me with it's wings as I cut the line. He had at least 4 other fishing lines hanging from it's bill.

I caught a gull on a Pop-R once.  

Tried to unhook it as gingerly as possible..... but it was mad, confused, and violently uncooperative.    Eventually my patience ran thin and I stomped it into a bloody mess on the deck of my Champion.   

Definitely not one of my proudest moments, but hey..... you know how it goes. 🙄 

In case you're wondering, Yes, gull blood stains boat carpet.

Hooked a pelican on the cast-- chucking a jerkabait toward the mangroves when a pelican flew up and into the line, which slid though the bill and hooked the bugger up. Thankfully, it was on a guided trip, and I didn't have to deal with it. 

In the PNW, I've hooked and landed a bunch of different diving birds-- a puffin, guillemots (sp?), a gull or two and a bird we called "twitterbutts". All but the gull were deep--one took my herring at 120 down, which I still find hard to believe.  Never stomped on one, though.

Same!  Gull on a Pop-R.  No blood, and very calm and cooperative.  I was wading at the time.

Lasso'd a Cliff Swallow on a backcast.

Had an Osprey pluck my 12" trolled baitfish out of the water while fishing for Roosterfish around Cabo San Lucas.

Leaf blower would not make a dent in my sleet.  I did skim the snow off, about 3" of fluff on 3" icy sleet.
