kjackson Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Sturgeon are a hoot to catch; I say that having been limited to three-footers. A fish that large is too much like work. Seeing a biggie jump close to the boat adds to the experience, though. JestersHK and Johnsfolly 2

I was so done after catching a 100 lb tarpon. A 600 lb sturgeon for me would mean a motor driven reel and somebody else to hold the rod. grizwilson, JestersHK and BilletHead 1 2
Johnsfolly Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I would love just a small 6 to 7 ft sturgeon. Or any of the Missouri/Mississippi species would be great. JestersHK, Terrierman and Ham 3

fishinwrench Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I may have told this story here before, but when I was in my late teens a pair of dudes pulled into the bait shop in Mexico, Mo. with a 4-5 footer that they caught in the Mississippi near Louisiana, Mo. That thing rode in the back of a pickup truck for over 2 hours, dry as a popcorn fart, had probably rode in the floor of their Jon boat for an hour before that....and after almost ANOTHER hour of standing around taking pictures and showing it off.....That sturgeon was thrown into the C&O Railroad lake in Mexico, and swam off like nothing was wrong with it. So apparently you can't kill the crazy things ! It's probably still in there !!! JestersHK 1
Quillback Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 If you want to have just about a guarantee on an 8 foot sturgeon or bigger, sign up for one of those Hell's Canyon guided trips. They catch the same fish over and over, they even have them named. They aren't very bright. Had to laugh at Rick's post, knew some guys that went on one of those giant sturgeon trips, they caught one, the first guy that hooked it got so tired of fighting it he had to hand the rod off to one of his buddies. Deadstream Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Yep, a friend and son went and caught a unbelievably large monster. His son(17) did the job, it was truly an amazing fish. I don't think (know) Im in good enough shape for that battle. 30# salmon gas me anymore. JestersHK, Johnsfolly and BilletHead 3
