jdmidwest Posted March 29, 2022 Posted March 29, 2022 Seems like low water was key. https://www.kfvs12.com/2022/03/28/low-water-levels-are-concern-across-ozarks-after-deaths-2-fishermen/ I was there two years ago, high water covered the ramp and lower camp sites. They have just opened back up for business. It's been on my list for a spring or fall trip in jet boat. Never see many reports on here about the area. There aren't any fish here, stay on the current river😉 BilletHead, Terrierman and grizwilson 1 1 1 everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Nobody has any business being on them after dark unless they know it like the back of their hand. Ever seen the movie, Bird Box ? The owner of Petit canoe rental gigs suckers in the winter time out there, but he has lived there his whole life. There is zero chance I would be on that river at night in a boat, there are huge boulders. Terrierman 1 everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
jdmidwest Posted March 29, 2022 Posted March 29, 2022 For years, we never went past 11 Pt. Then one day, it was blown out and we found Spring River at Thayer. We got bored with that and hit the Strawberry, the Warm Fork of the Spring, then the White River tailwaters at Norfork and Bull Shoals, then Crooked Creek. We only made one exploratory trip to the NFOW during that time. Never gave it more than that. Was going the summer that Cancer came back. Finally made it back in fall of 2020 to find it ruined by floods and ended up on Table Rock and Taney. I am still going, sometime soon..... fishinwrench Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 The NFOW is a pretty river, but it's a bit too quick for my taste. Even the slowest stretches move too fast. Waist deep water that you can't hardly stand up in.....just stresses me out. Terrierman 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 I’ve never been impressed by the NFoW. I’ve fished it dozens of times. It was just a back up to wading the norfork or the white if they were running water. Or one of my buddies who had this desire to fish it on the way down or back because they heard some romanticized stories about it. And those quickly faded😆 Terrierman 1

Made a cast, the wind hit and instant dump. Lost a couple of good rods and a box full of hard baits. It was cold in the springtime. Was glad for a set of dry clothes in a bag and stuff to build a fire. That broke me of the NFOW jones. grizwilson 1
ColdWaterFshr Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 The last time I dumped was on the NFOW. A chap by the name of Forsythian (Ken) saved me. Though I'm sure I would have been okay, I would've lost my boat and some fishing rods. He just happened to be puttering around in a jet-yak where we dumped and came to the rescue in deep swift water. Its a river to be respected for sure. I would like to explore the extreme upper stretch around 76 Hwy and Topaz. Have never been above Twin Bridges. Terrierman 1
Gavin Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 That's lake water/slow flow down by Tecumseh, but you can still drown in it. I'm sorry those folks lost their lives. That is a fun river to float, but it does try to get you wet when you don't want too. I've lost count of the times I've floated my hat when wading down there. The last nasty wipeout I had was on the NFoW around one of the islands between Myron's and Blair. I was floating solo in the kayak and tried to run a chute that looked like guaranteed tragedy in a canoe, but a short wild ride in a kayak. I ended up rolling the boat on the face of a 3'' standing wave. Lost a rod, hat, and a pair of sunglasses. Had my PFD on for a change, and was glad I did. snagged in outlet 3 1
