I Will Not Be Bait...

Recommended Posts

I carried the gunny sack for the adults when I was a kid. It was the Chariton river in north Mo, so it was mostly 5-6 lbers with a rare 10 thrown in. Draggin' the sack wasn't that much fun, but the community fish fries afterwards were awesome. And I learned where they nested, which came in handy years later.

I can't dance like I used to.

A few years ago there was a noodling show on one of the outdoor channels.  It was a competition, there was a weigh-in somewhere in OK, I can't remember where.  Several two person teams would fan out and noodle, they could go anywhere as long as they made it back to the weigh-in site on time.  Sort of a noodling reality show.  I think it only ran for a year.  It was entertaining.  As for myself, I have zero interest in noodling.

Jeff I think that you are talking about the show Mudcats on History or Nat geo channel. I watched both seasons.

We did a lot of noodling in high school in Oklahoma. Never did the lake stuff, we just stuck to the creeks. Not too dangerous if you forget about the snapping turtles, snakes, beavers, etc. biggest we ever tangled with was just shy of 50 pounds that came out of a small creek.

I had some unsubstantiated fear of muskrats for some reason when I was a kid.  My brother threatened to bust my head wide open on more than one occasion because I immediately panicked and aborted the mission because I thought a muskrat was gonna come out of a hole nearby.

Never even once had a terrifying muskrat encounter..... but for some reason I just knew it was gonna happen.

What a puss!  🙄

We used to noodle on the forks of the Grand river. Old tractor tires and cinder block motels.  We quit when a friend became so ill his kidneys, etc were shutting down. After a scary week in hospital they concluded it was from the farm field runoff. They first thought it was from a tick bite. Can't remember what they called it, but that was it for us. And it was illegal 😇
