MOPanfisher Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 I guess I am weird or maybe just cheap. I can't think of any fish that I would get mounted. I don't want it on my wall and I don't want it hanging around a storage building later to end up in a garage sale for $5. The memory will live and die inside my head. If I had a good photo of it I would print and frame it maybe. Deer it's more about the memory. I have one of my own euro mounted and have had a few for my wife, her first and a couple subsequent larger bucks. Otherwise I just saw off the antlers and add them to a small pile I have. However it doesn't bother me if someone has every large fish deer turkey or snake they get mounted. I just always think "I could have bought a rifle or some more nicer fishing tackle for what that costs". Hmm sounds more like I am just cheap. tjm 1

Yep, you are just cheap. 😁 We go on one vacation a year, typically somewhere fishing related that is a state or 2 away, costing $1500 or less. My family/buddies go on 2 or 3 a year, countries away, and spend tens of thousands a year. Every single time i think “i could have bought this and that and had it for years”. They just tell me I don’t understand. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
tjm Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 I can't think of any reason for me to have any fish or other wild life stuffed/mounted. Just pile up that money and burn it and save yourself the hassle of dragging it from place to place when you move, constant cleaning of dust off it, dealing with bugs that want to eat it or live in it, especially the having to look at the ugly mount and think how that money could have been spent on a new fly rod or a rifle, or a trip to a far away hunt or fishing adventure. Honestly I have never seen an attractive mount of fish or game. They don't bother me at BPS or in a cafe or lodge, but every time I see them in someone's home it makes me wonder about that persons sanity. And if I wanted a stuffed critter or twenty, like mentioned above, they are $5-7 at yard sales, free on the curbs sometimes. All that said, if you have a reason to get your food mounted , what difference can it make whether the fish is 10" or 100"? It's your reason and your dead fish . You shouldn't even ask someone else opinion. Be your own person. If you start asking, someone like me will tell you "buzzards got to eat too"; and uncluttered walls are easier to repaint.
mic Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 I agree with others here... a good pic and let it go.
rps Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 A fellow teacher, whose class room was across the hall from me for several years, had a magnificent large mouth mount on his classroom wall. The fish was 8+ he said. He also said it was the only thing he got out of the divorce.
tjm Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 I can empathize with the ex, good enough reason for a divorce. Don't focus on dead things, look to the future, the next fish may be bigger.

You know if you posted this on a FB page, or any type of fishing/hunting group, you would get eaten alive. The guys here are to nice, but your opinion is yours. I love looking at mounts of any type. I have duck, pheasant, deer, goose. The only one in my house is Jack, a beautiful 130” deer above my entry door. Had him mounted 10 years ago this month, and he is part of our family. I say “hey Jack” every morning when i walk down the stairs. JestersHK, Daryk Campbell Sr, Johnsfolly and 2 others 5 TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
Flysmallie Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 I have a couple on my office wall that belonged to my dad. The only reason they are there was to save them from the dump because nobody else wanted them. And that's the same reason they are where they are today and I really wish they weren't. But what do you do with them? I too would rather have a nice photo. I have the pics of my dad with these fish and they are much more interesting than the fish hanging on the wall.
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 I don't want a mount of any One Fish, but I do appreciate the multiple fish mounts. The ones that look like a scene of habitat. I can't blame anyone for how they spend their money. I've wasted alot on things I no longer desire.
