We're in western Long Island hoping to catch some lifer herring. Found that they will be active late afternoon and early evening. Had the micro rigs in the car and got on the 2023 board with a few Atlantic silversides.

Hope that the herring give us a shot.

Hey John @JohnsfollyOutdoor channel has a flyfishing show coming up about fishing for cobia in Chesapeake Bay.  I didn't know they came into the bay, but those are some tasty fish.  I bet they are a blast to catch too.

Jeff they are typically found in the lower bay closer to the ocean during the summer and fall. During drier years they can follow the higher salinity water to about the midpoint of the bay. Big bull reds follow them into the bay as well. I've eaten cobra and it is a tasty fish. I have never caught one but the seem to fight on the line and in the boat😉.

I have some spearfishing stories about how tough cobia can be. But will save those for another time.

Cobia are delicious!  I've only caught one (in Florida)...during my honeymoon! Great fight!  The boat captain said they taste so good because they eat crabs.

Been out twice this week.  First outing I got interrupted by a work call and watched multiple keeper bass suddenly apear and swim past while I walked back to the truck...

Today i took out a new 7'6 3wt I picked up on clearance from cabelas.  It's a cheap rod but fills a hole I had for small creeks and streams.  Those of you who've seen me cast understand a better rod is wasted on my ugly side arm cast I do with my bum shoulder lol

Caught 2 bass and 2 gills on a wooly bugger. Fish were really cold to the touch still so they were a bit sluggish.

First fish of 2023 was the monster below!  Making John and Ham proud micro fishing with the long rod 😆

I guess the bright side is they should only get bigger from here on out!
