Brian Shaffer sent me this pic the other day, taken at the MDC boat ramp.  The last couple of days, I've been throwing a white jig and having good success, but only from outlet #1 to just past the Big Hole.

Tony Weldele sent me these images yesterday from Table Rock - threadfin sunning themselves on the surface.  Water temp there is about 41, 43 down here on Taneycomo.

I seldom see or hear about anyone fishing shad streamers or Clousers at Taney.    Why is that?

Years ago a buddy and I hooked up with an old dude named Tom Able down on Norfork, and the 3 of us came up with a streamer we called the Baxter Blonde......We absolutely hammered the browns, rainbows, and cutty-crossbreeds on that fly.

Basically black & white with some yellow flash material. Marabou and bucktail.    I could whip one up and post a pic if anyone is interested.    None of us had a sink-tip line at the time so we just fished it with a BB or #1 split shot about 15" in front of it.     We literally put on a clinic fishing that thing anytime shad were coming through the gates.

Tie one up Glen and post it

In typical "blonde" style.....the tail and underwing are 2 separate pinches of Marabou (if you do it all with one longer piece of marabou it will foul around the hook every other cast).   IMG_20230216_134554143~2.jpg

The bottom is ugly.....it never mattered, so we just half-assed wrapped some Krystal flash over the tail tie-in area. IMG_20230216_135513291~2.jpg

If you wanted to be all fancy you could do a nicer job with yellow floss.    But honestly I don't think it matters.     A hint of YELLOW or Chartreuse is a real thing though, we established that for sure.       We actually used yellow..... but the closest I have now is chartreuse.   Whether that matters is debatable.

Swing it, or slow-strip it, with rod tip twitches. 👍

We don't have many shad kills - when shad come over or through the dam here.  Wish we did.  But we do catch them on white jigs alot.  And we do through white streamers, just not often.

@fishinwrenchI threw a double deceiver Tuesday afternoon until the sun came out. First cast I had a ~10 lb brown follow it all the way to the boat. Rolled on it and missed it. Came back then just went back down. I'm currently tying more deceivers and peanut envies.

Thanks Ryan,

Fox tail guard hair for tail. Retain tail underfur and mix with some flash for body. Head Is synthetic material bundles the appropriate length tied on top and bottom of Head. Two bundles of each color pulled high and tight on top and low and tight on the bottom creating a vertical flat profile.  Many types of long fiber dubbing will make the head. This is what I used.

Might do a step by step sometime.
