Big M area, April 9

A great Spring day today.  Redbuds are peaking, if you want to see a bunch of redbuds, take a drive through Roaring River.  Better do it soon as it will be over before you know it.

Fishing was a little slow today.  Cold morning seemed to have them in a funk, but later in the morning when it warmed up and the wind started blowing, the bite improved.

Caught 15 bass and a couple of nice crappie, Ned rig and Keitechs.  One keeper largemouth, the rest were not.

Shallow fish, I can't get a bite out past about 10 feet.

This 14" crappie ate a 2.8 Keitech.

We fished out of SK last Thursdqy and Friday. Went upstream just short of Big M. first trip this year to the rock a

that we actually seemed like we were on fish.Mostly on Kietechs on points probably around 10 ft nothing real deep. Mostly smaller but fat K's. Few smallmouth one big one  around 3.5#, my scale must need a new battery would'nt work. Cove near launch had bait in it each morning. you could see the bass in the ball. caught several video fishing but again no size, but fun.

The answer may not lie at the bottom of a glass, but you should always check

Those fat K's are fun on light tackle.

Yea I caught a 2 pound crappie on Saturday.  I was shocked at how big that thing was when I first saw it.

Bet ya didn’t catch another one and the same spot.

In every lake in the world crappie are a schooling fish. They didn’t get the memo for Table Rock, 90% of the time.

I seen the craziest thing last week around the state park . Water temp was 53 degrees and I went shallow just to have a look around . I see a couple of beds which I can’t believe . I drift in with the wind and see a weird looking fish . Not sure what I was looking at until it turned sideways and it was a monster crappie . I look around some more and these things are sitting in about a foot of water , not giving a crap what I’m throwing at them . So weird , never have I seen or tried to site fish bedding crappie. On a side note I caught one that day on a jerk bait that weight 2.2 lbs . Biggest crappie ever for me

Yep, a lot of "2-pound crappie" are caught and never weighed. Fact is, most aren't much more than half of that weight. A true 2-pound crappie is a giant. My grandfather caught them regularly at certain times of the year on Lake Ouachita in Arkansas.
