I’m taking a friend spin fishing in a few weeks. We’ll either fish the Huzzah or the Courtois. He hasn’t fished the area before and will likely ask for recommendations on lures.

I’m usually throwing a four-inch Zoom finesse worm. Sometimes I get crazy toward evening and throw a Rebel Pop-R. What else do people suggest?

I'm fairly new to the river smallmouth fishing scene but, more and more, I enjoy throwing a minnow shaped crankbait. A crawdad n-rig is a must also, imo.

Creek/River smallies are too easy on "gear".   To the point that it's basically childsplay.

I find that flyfishing for them is way more satisfying.  At least it makes it a challenge.

For the life of me I can't understand guys like @Al Agnew that are truly good fishermen, that also are very proficient with fly gear......But yet choose not to flyfish for Smallies.    Its a head-scratcher, but to each his own 👍

I LOVE to fish.....but I really don't wanna catch 100+ fish everytime I go.   If I did then I'd get bored with it.

I don't understand Crappie fanatics either......"Tick"....reel them in....."Tick".....reel them in, ect. ect. ad-infinitum😵‍💫 No fight, No jumps <sigh!>       I mean, good God.....just shoot me!   I'd rather stand under a street light and swat moths.

I'm with Wrench, I like to fly fish for them. A ned rig, jig, etc doesn't do it for me. A lunch money, white trash, and gonga are all top notch streamers I use. Ryan Walker ties a shuttlecock that works super well, too. Right now, a big popper is hard to beat in the twilight times.

Yeah I agree.  Catching lots of fish when I fish sucks.

What's my line for small mouth is most often a Gurgler, but, sometimes a Zonker.  In the outfall of a culvert I  may tie on a marabou jig.

If fly fishing for them, it's usually a big popper, with rubber legs, but you rarely pop it. Dead drift on smooth current. The other is the good old fashioned Sparkleminnow. Fish a walking plug to, or a plopper, buzzer etc. Not a huge fan of plastics other than a Zoom Super Fluke. Look up Chuck Kraft and Eastern Trophies on Youtube, you will get some ideas.
