Flysmallie Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 Monday I was having a hard time making up my mind. Do I go wade some small creeks, do I go paddle up somewhere, or should I just stay home and work on the things that need to be done. While I was trying to decide I was thinking about @snagged in outlet 3 post about buzz bait. So I said screw it and headed to the river with not much more than one buzz bait. And it worked just as it should. I could not find a smallmouth anywhere. I saw them in the river, they just wouldn't play with that buzzer. It was a beautiful day but the wind blew. I mean it sucked and it blew. Towards the end of my short 4 mile float it rained leaves. The entire river was covered. I got pretty good and getting the buzz bait through all that, but it didn't matter, they weren't coming up for it anymore. Here's a few pics of a really beautiful day. I planned on taking a ton of pics but I was trying to get my camera back into a dry bag at one point and heard a kerploop. You know the sound of something dropping in the water. I looked over expecting to see pliers or something in the water but what I saw terrified me. It was the mode dial off the top of my camera. So I had to beach the yak and get a little wetter than what I had planned. I have no idea why it just came apart. I was able to get it back together at home, which was relieving since I had a fairly serious photo shoot on Tuesday. Looks like I'm searching for my next camera system. dan hufferd, nomolites, BilletHead and 10 others 13
fishinwrench Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 Pretty pics👍 I thought all buzzbaits had to be black during the Fall. That's what they teach us up here in the land of the magic dragon.🤷♂️

It’s the only correct color anyway. fishinwrench 1

You have all winter for that. I wish you would’ve gotten bit better. Leaves cancelled my trips this week. Rafts of them. Flysmallie 1
ColdWaterFshr Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 I played hooky and hit the upper Current today, hoping for rain and a bump in the water level. Got neither. But I did get sunburnt, and caught a bunch of leaves on a new streamer pattern that I stuck with for far too long. Ironically, didn't catch one darn trout, but caught a dozen dink smallmouth. snagged in outlet 3, Flysmallie and nomolites 3

I grew up trout fishing and have caught 1000’s I guess by now. Once I really got to smallie fishing I prefer them over trout. Growing up we floated and fished some creeks but now it’s about all I do. I’ll go back to trout for winter a little more though. BilletHead 1

The videos show up on Facebook and when they called out they take them down. Shame really. Back in the day it was kind of a lesser known area. Internet killed it like a lot of areas. That’s just my opinion. But the crowds certainly got larger.

Leaves are falling, moss and algae dying, water super clear. Baitfish scared and tight to cover. Throw a small green worm next to a brush pile and be patient. You can thank me later.
