Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 15, 2024 Root Admin Posted May 15, 2024 Fishing the bluff from Lookout to the Narrows. Best stretch was lower section. Had 6 takes and 3 hookups. Saw lots of cicadas hit the water and almost every one got eaten. It’s only going to get better! dpitt, Ryan Miloshewski, BilletHead and 8 others 11
Quillback Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 Those Taney trout are going to be fat, first shad and now Cicadas. Daryk Campbell Sr, Seth and dpitt 3
Nick Adams Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 think they'll keep running water through the weekend?
Members Tom C Posted May 15, 2024 Members Posted May 15, 2024 Awesome to hear this since I'll down at your place in 2 weeks. I'm tying up some cicadas. What cicada fly were you using? Thank you!
Ryan Miloshewski Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 Alright, that's all I needed. Me and my cicadas will be down as soon as I can get away from work. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 15, 2024 Author Root Admin Posted May 15, 2024 Yes they'll run water for a while. How much I'm not sure. I'll try to take a pic of the 2 kinds we carry in the shop. Daryk Campbell Sr and Quillback 2
snagged in outlet 3 Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 I might have to sample that this week😁 Quillback 1
fishinwrench Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 I'm not sure if this lil'tidbit is gonna come across as "Helpful" or if it's going to hurt somebody's feelings....... But the fish in Taneycomo are highly unlikely to become SELECTIVE on Cicadas. So don't get too hung up on that. The water is clear enough that no SPLAT is needed to "ring the dinner bell", or for them to notice your fly. The Cicadas might get them looking up, and taking bigger bites though, so don't hesitate to drift a #8 or #6 Stimulator, Royal Wulff, Chernobyl Ant, Oversized Crackleback.....or anything else you can reasonably tie onto 4x or 3x tippet. 👍 snagged in outlet 3 and cmoore03 1 1

Thanks, Tom Ciolino Expand Are you asking....How do I know that the fish are highly unlikely to become selective to specific Cicada imitations? Deductive reasoning, coupled with 40+ years of experience tying flys and eventually catching fish consistently, here in this region. As ridiculous as it might seem, the larger the food item that trout get keyed into eating.....the less selective they always are. Fish eating little 22-18 bugs typically get way more selective (or picky) than fish eating Mice, Hoppers, ect. Throw 'em a Boogle Bug ! 😉 Tom C and snagged in outlet 3 2
