Members david13 Posted June 23 Members Posted June 23 I’ve been wanting to get on a stripper bite and I finally ran into them today. Caught a few fish on the glide bait hi in the water column but after the sun got brighter the fish went Deep. I got on top of a school and started throwing spoons. I caught a nice wall eye and some nice stripper and probably my PB stripper. I tried netting it but didn’t fit and I probably took tension of the rod and came off. Im thinking it was approximately 35- 40 lbs. Such a fun bite catching them on spoons in deep water. I’ll need to buy a bigger net. Terrierman, Daryk Campbell Sr, BilletHead and 9 others 12

Any pictures?

bfishn Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Funny how you always think your net is big enough... until it isn't. david13, Terrierman, FishnDave and 1 other 4 I can't dance like I used to.
Quillback Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Maybe a blessing in disguise, the fun part of stripers is fighting them, you got it the boat, it got off, you don't have to deal with either trying to revive it, or keeping it and dealing with a lot of striper to eat. 😀
Members david13 Posted June 23 Author Members Posted June 23 @Quillback haha that’s a great perspective, the fight was awesome, felt like my rod was going break a few times. Johnsfolly and Quillback 2
Dutch Posted June 24 Posted June 24 I have no idea of what a striper that size looks like. I don’t think I would want to tangle with it. I’ve caught lots of hybrids on Truman but I have never had a striper.
Members Phil S Posted June 24 Members Posted June 24 @david13Congrats! what kind of spoon are you using? I usally use War Eagle spoons, but that one looks nice.
Members david13 Posted June 24 Author Members Posted June 24 @Dutch like @Quillback said if you can get one it’s such a fun fight. I’ve landed a few in the mid to hi 20s but that was my first in the 30s I hook up with. Quillback 1
Members david13 Posted June 24 Author Members Posted June 24 @Phil S most of the damage came from the Lake Fork Flutter spoon 5.5 but the River 2 sea world wide spoon 100 and Dixie Jet 1.5 ounce also caught one each Phil S and Quillback 2
