Where are the insects ?

Ok so yeah it has cooled down just a bit, BUT where have all the bugs suddenly gone?  It hasn't cooled off THAT MUCH.

No ticks, no chiggers, no flys in the kitchen, no clouds of bugs flying around my outdoor lighting....or the lighting at the lake access or the local gas stations.    And I took a walk into the woods yesterday and came out minus the stinging/burning of oak mites on my legs.

Is it just here around Gravois Mills, or is anybody else noticing this all of a sudden? 🤔

They are all splattered on my windshield.  Killed a bunch going to TR yesterday.

You didn’t get all of them.  They are all over my windshield too.

Oak mites are bad here and big black horse flies are starting now pinging off vehicles as we drive down the dirt roads.  Ticks less as are the chiggers. Getting a bit of moisture that might be changing that. One major thing we did see this gardening season were less insects in the garden. Not a tomato worm at all. Very few shield bugs either. Squash bugs were minimal. Bees like the squash blossoms so I do not like to put anything on the squash plants. I tried to remove as many eggs off the leaves as I can. What did hatch never exploded into masses of beetles. It was a different year for sure.

Earlier in the year I was getting bitten by mosquitoes and chigger so badly I didn’t even want to go out. It has gotten a lot better.

Also, when there was all the talk about cicadas a month or two back I just want seeing them. But a few weeks ago I started seeing them here. Rusty loves to chase them down and eat them😀

Been seeing the big horseflies and a new hatch of cicadas this week. Spiders still stringing cobwebs all through the woods. And plenty of those little flying gnats that like to hover right in front of your nose. Seems pretty normal to me.

It sure is nice being able to work at night without getting covered in bugs. And equally nice being able to walk all over my property without getting eaten alive.......Just seems odd and abnormal.

A few butterflies and bees during the day, and the occasional SINGLE moth during the night, that's all there has been for the last week or so.  I'm loving it!

Haven't even plucked a tick off the dog in awhile. 👍
