I think it was a very well ran tourney! Yes the lake got busy but it was a warm Saturday in June. We fished mostly around KC on main lake points early then back in creeks later. We camped at Bar M and as usual caught decent fish practicing Thursday and Friday. I like the way they have drawings for gift cards each period. Even if dont catch a bigger money fish, can still enter for a period draying of up to $250 in Lews/Strike King gift card. I was lucky to score a $50 one. I think big bass was a little over 5 pounds. Same guy won 2 periods. $1000 per period and $5000 for overall

I fished with DanO and we had another double I got 2 largemouth on one 6XD Had the smaller one hooked on the back hook when I saw the bigger one (3.75 lbs) take the front hook. They stayed buttoned up even after coming out of the net!! Props to the net man!!

Hoping the lake levels drop a bit. We happen to luck into a camping spot on the Mill Creek peninsula. Always wanted to stay there and finally got a spot.

Anyone fishing this one day tourney this year? Or have you fished it in the past? Think its maybe just a couple years old. Gonna come down and give it a try. Camped and fished out of Ray Behrens last weekend (Fri- Mon). Water temps low to mid 70's. Lake was the lowest I've seen it in limited trips up there. Lake level 604.5 Decent clarity, few feet it seemed. Mainly targeted bass. Did talk to some crappie fisherman in the campground and they were having some luck with minnows 10 ft down in 20+ ft of water. As for the bass had a decent trip. Best baits were a black/silver or chartreuse sexy shad crankbaits. Couple bites on a shad colored swimbait. Targeted main lake points. Had luck on points with or without timber. Caught several bass in the 12-14" range. Did manage to get 2 bass over 15" and had a bonus 19" walleye on same crankbaits. Saw all kinds of bait fish but could not get any LM to bite around them. No luck on soft plastics (brush hog) or topwater. Overall was a fun and productive trip!.

On Monday's knockout round after catching either his first or second scorable, Wheeler whistled and said to the camera "we are gonna reel in some fish today boys". And he did exactly that. Amazing how he claimed it so early, then did just that. Impressive!

Over the last few weeks been fishing for bass on Twain. Really the first times I have been to the lake mainly looking for bass, other times have been for crappie. Had a 3 day weekend late August (28/29/30) and had some luck. While didn't get any bass over 15 inches, was able to catch a few. We targeted bluff walls with timber, main lake points, and some islands/humps. Seemed to have the best luck with orange stick worm or orange/green pumpkin Ned rig. Also caught some bass on a sexy shad 6XD. Ned proved itself as an all species lure as I caught LM bass, crappie, and a channel cat on it. The 6XD also found a hungry flathead. My brother in law was using a shad crankbait and caught a real nice walleye. Pic below Went Sunday the 13th and it was tough going. Never boated a fish. Lake traffic was down, only saw one jet ski. Water temps in low 70's and the lake seemed low but I guess is near the "normal pool" for summer time. Zero topwater action. Saw several giant balls of shad, but no activity around them. Also have not seen any white bass blowups. Will continue to post after future trips. Safe fishing!!

And to answer my own question, myself personally I've had the best luck with a 4" Lake Fork flutter spoon, chrome. We get down to TRL one week a year, and its always end of June. The water temps are usually elevated, as is the boat traffic. Water levels often vary, but the flutter spoon on some bluff walls works the best for me. Personal best for me with that setup is little over 5 pounds. Not a giant, but still fun to catch that time of year.

As I watch the end of the MLF Heavy Hitters tourney I wanted to pose a question to the forum... If you had to target a single heavy bass in the June/July time frame, what lure and what structure would you target?

Gonna head up Saturday and see if can find any crappie that wanna play.

The openings are meant to provide increased public access to Mark Twain Lake in a manner that is consistent with CDC guidelines and practices in fighting COVID-19. 1. Monday, 27 April 2020 – Open all Hunter-Fisherman (HF) Access areas for recreation and dispersed public hunting except HF#11 at Rt.N. This includes 9 boat ramps at the following Hunter Fisherman Access Areas: * HF #15 at Shell Branch, #20 at FF, #26 at North Fork, #23 at Hwy 24, #30 at Route U, #41 at Elk Fork, #60 at BB, #70 at the re-regulation pool, and Duane Wheelan. * Dispersed hunting as normal except in developed recreation areas or as posted. 2. Friday, 1 May 2020 – Robert Allen, South Fork, and Stoutsville Recreation Areas and boat ramps will open and no fees will be collected until further notice. HF #11 at Rt. N will also open. The fish cleaning station at Stoutsville will remain closed due to social distancing at this time. 3. Monday, 4 May 2020 – Boat ramps at Ray Behrens, John F. Spalding, Indian Creek, Bluff View, and the Warren G. See South Spillway Recreation Area will open, however fish cleaning stations will remain closed. The Lick Creek and Joanna Trails will open at this time as well. No fees will be collected until further notice. 4. Campgrounds, beaches and picnic facilities will remain closed. We get to TRL one a year for a week in late June. At those time the water levels and water temps can vary greatly. We mainly fish around KC, Coney Island, and Cow Creek. This year I decided to do some Google Earth scouting, looking for areas I thought for the time of year would be productive. I was able to locate a nice cove/pocket off the main lake with a couple deep docks and standing timber. A spot we would normally drive right by. While we were there the water came up several feet and the LM were in the bushes. That little pocket produced a 5+ and a couple 3's within the week we were there. And out on the main lake side we got a bonus run of white bass one morning. That spot may not pay off every year, but you can bet we will try it each time we are down there. Just like other spots we fish.
