  1. Fished from 7-1:30. And then 3:30-5. I fished the Everett Big Bass event today. First time doin something like that. I really enjoyed it and hope to do it again next year. I put in at Rocky Branch and fished that area all day. Water temp was around 72. Conditions were calm and sunny once the fog burned off. I had made a decision beforehand to not use any finesse gear and I stuck to that. Reaction baits and topwater. Mainly shad colors. I ended up with about a dozen fish. But I only weighed one. (Which was an ounce shy of a check for the hour) Just couldn't get that kicker fish to be for sure in the money. I saw one though. Darn bass attacked a bluegill at the end of my 7ft rod that could of tapped him on the head. I tried to fool him throughout the day but he must have gotten full. It taught me that fish will hit topwater during the middle of the day with no clouds. Got numerous fish on a prop bait after that. Would love to hear how other people on the forum faired. It was five pounds and some change to win the event I believe.

    Bigunn today

I am starting to think Alex is just better at photoshopping and practical jokes than he is wielding a rod and reel. Here is a pic he texted me saying that he has always caught "bigguns" since he was a young boy. The arm is believable but I don't see any "fish thumb" on that right hand.

    Bigunn today

We got down this afternoon and caught some fish before the cardinals game started. Mostly top water. Caught this one and it weighed 6.34. Absolutely crushed the top water. Have to love this lake.

  6. Got one of the girls up early this morning for a little Daddy Daughter time. Went to the back of PC and messed around for a little casting some top water at about 7:00. No bites so we ran out to the islands and trolled some flicker shads. No luck there either. About 9:00 AM headed back to the back of PC- this time trolling flicker shads. Proceeded to have a great 2 hours and made a great memory. We kept running the same stretch of bank over and over and caught something on every pass. I was excited whene we hit the "Beaver Slam" (Striper, White, Smallie, Spot, LM). But then she caught a 19 inch walleye and I caught the first drum I have ever caught on the Beav. We were only missing a catfish! The wind started picking up just a little right at 9 and that is when the fish started biting. No real size on any of them except the walleye (who was released to get a little bigger). Smallie was nice and fat but only about 14 inches. Striper was 12 inches. Interesting- the shad colored Flicker Shad which is usually my top lure got no love. Blue Tiger and Uncle Rico caught all the fish... Guess they wanted a little more color. Marked a lot of fish back there today...

  7. I fished the Everett as well. Caught 3 keepers. Won $200 for closest to 2 lbs for an hour. Spinnerbait bite til the sun came up then cranked all day with nothing else but shorts. Went back lack out from 4-7 hickory creek area. Caught 10-11 good fish on the same spinnerbait and cranks. 4-5 keepers probably would have weighed 7-8lbs Water color makes all he difference in the world for me. I absolutely hate fishing clear water. Give me dirty all day everyday

  9. Had a great day of fishing yesterday in the MO-Yak Classic Championship on Table Rock. I took 3rd place and won Big Bass with a 19.75" large mouth caught on a perch colored Whopper Plopper. I also caught an 18.5" smallie on a PB&J Ned rig. All the rest of my fish were shorter and all came on the Ned rig. Lost another beauty on the Whopper Plopper too. It hit it 3 times, but I was a little to fast on my reaction and missed it all 3 times. BUMMER! Most of the fish came on chunk rock on secondary points and in the backs of coves. If you can find them chasing shad, that is the ticket. They were anywhere from 1 foot of water to about 15 feet of water. Great time to be out on the lake! Here are some pictures I took.

  10. Caught 5 with 1 keeper. Fished in the dam area on the various points and flats in 15 - 20 fow. Also caught a bunch of bluegill. Probably could have caught more walleye if the bluegill would leave it alone.

  11. The title sums up my time on the lake today. Fortunately, I was the tower and not the towee. The lake is beautiful right now so I took a few pictures. Please note the absence of boats and PWC.

  12. I try and replace mono about every fourth trip. A big spool is so cheap it's worth it. Hook line and sinker has the bass pro stuff. About $10 for 1000 yards. Braid is on a number of my rods and definitely lasts the longest. I often use either mono or floro leaders on the braid. Double uni, 13 wraps on braid side, 5 on floro/mono side. I don't recommend the red box Seagar floro. Bad experiences. Yellow box, Invizx is good. My two cents.

  13. Funny, all I could think was that it just ate my walleye bait. Think I will keep a few to eat.

  14. I hope it wasn't Vanish, that stuff always snaps on me. I have had brand new lines throw a top water clean across the lake before I had a chance to even think about getting a crimp. That is what made me go almost entirely to braid, last years no worries, no replacing, just don't back lash. But to each his own everyone has their favorites and nothing wrong with that. Better luck next time.

  15. Yep. I doubt those kids care how Beaver lake fishes for a big bass event. The funds going there is what's important to me. Not to mention I'm sure I wasn't the only one that spent $100 bucks on gear at my local bait shops in preparation for the event.

  16. got out a couple of hours yesterday afternoon with linda. not the best day with the wind and clouds for what we wanted, but did manage to catch a few. had 4 keepers with one nice one and some shorts. not bad for the conditions and short amount of time. notice the new crappie head. works great for the half of a senko. bo

  17. This is for those who struggle skipping docks. I did post this already on the bbb topic but thought I would just make a new post specific to this topic. If you are having trouble skipping docks here is a technique to help with those pesky back lashes. Take your bait caster with the jig you plan on using. 3/8 or 1/2 work best but when you get the hang of it you can easily skip a 3/4 as well. Make a cast about 30 to 40 feet and pull out some extra line if you want. Do this at home while your line is still dry. Then wrap your spool with a piece of black tape about an inch long. While reeling your lure in keep tension on the line as to get good adhesion to your spool line. This prevents underpin on your extra line eliminating such a deep back lash. Or You can just put about 30 to 40 feet of line on your reel if you would like. I just don't like this as it changes the reel ratio. Not only does the black tape trick work to help you with skipping, but it will also help teach a kid how to use a bit caster while eliminating those back lashes. Good luck and do lots of practice.

  19. Had a college series event out there today as well, only weighed one fish for that. But first was only 6 pounds. Caught a bunch of short fish and had a lot of missed opportunities. I couldn't pick up a top water bite for anything, caught most on a drop shot. Had issues with my fishing line and broke off a half dozen times on hook sets. Gotta figure that out. Good day, just really slow for us.

  20. I had a good 4 or 5 pounder attack a topwater bait over 40 ft in the dead of summer with bluebird skies. They will definitely bite topwater in sunny skies. Hate I missed this one. It's one of two that I'll fish.

I just had two boxes of craws show up at my house. Thank you trophyfishr and thank you mitch. It's neat to see someone else's handiwork who you feel like you know a little but have never met. I'm blown away by the realism of course, but I'm more impressed by how hardy they appear to be. Looks like the pincers will stay on through multiple fish. Going to give them a shot in the back yard creek this week.
