  1. Amen, I have a lot of faith in much of today's youth. Even though they may NE be user/conumerous of resources that we are they will be the ones who will save and improve what we leave behind. My son was never interested, said fishing was boring, doesn't mean he might not take it up later in life. BTW I have seen him sit with a dying cat for several hours until it finally passed, he just didn't want it to be alone. I believe character like that will shine through regardless if he wants to fish or not.
  2. Update, Connor was allowed to go home today. He had all the nurses etc. wrapped around his little finger because we'll he is cute and polite. One of the nurses came in this morning to give him another steroid or antibiotic shot, knot sure which it was) and asked him "are we still friends?". He reply "please don't hurt me again". Glad I wasn't there would broken a gruff old grampa's heart. Wife said the first words out of his mouth when she got there were "where is Papa", good thing she didn't tell.me til.later because I would have left work and gone to see him. But I figured there were more than enough people coming and going in his room already with grandma, mom and dad there. I did talk to him on the phone using the 2 way video thingy and just may have promised to.take him fishing this fall regardless if he is completely potty trained or not. Have decided these years/days are just too precious for both of us to let slide by. I cannot express how much your support in prayers, good thught and just letting me ramble mean. I humbly say THANK YOU, one and all.
  3. I would love for there to be so many kids fishing that I had to find new spots.
  4. His name is Connor. They are unsure if he will get to go home today or not, when his oxygen mask falls off while sleeping his O2 saturation fall below 90 and the monitor starts screaming. Of course I also worry about other things on their behalf such as the cost. Between the 2 parents they have 3 to 4 jobs, of course none of which provide insurance, and being working folks they don't qualify for medicaid, the last time they had to buy insurance it was closing in on 1k a month for 2 young healthy people with a child. This is gonna be tough on them, they had just sort.of gotten their finances straightened out. I know my daughter worries a lot about such things, so a prayer or two for their peace of mind also please.
  5. My future fishing buddy (aka Papas little boogerhead) is spending the night in a hospital with pneumonia in one lung. His mom (my daughter) his daddy as my wife are with him now. Talked to him on the phone (well sort of, he is 3 and was eating a popsicle) and he seems to be perking up a little bit. Much scarier when it is someone you love and can't do a single thing about it. Any thoughts and prayers would be appreciated.

  7. I get annoyed by such behavior but am still unwilling to let those types ruin my mood. What they did at first certainly wouldn't rise to the level of brandishing a firearm, however the occasional hitching up of a holster isnt out of line. Once they started to follow you back to town then it becomes different I would pull in at the first semi public spot and happily sit there smoking a cigar or whatever, certainly they wouldn't be seeing what street I live on. Maybe I am too suspicious.
  8. Won't be long until squirrels are ganged up on hickory trees, cutting the still green nuts and making it rain underneath them.
  9. A much smaller system can be designed if only used for battery charging a a couple LED lights. The Solar guys I have worked with will first ask yiu what you want to be able to do, and how often. Then they will design the system. Larger docks don't have to have the entire dock run off of a single solar system. There could be multiple smaller systems running 4 or so stalls depending on usage/needs.
  10. I would say MO is still 10 or more years from having a bear season, but maybe who knows. A draw for a permit, a few high $ permits issued and money go to the bear studies?

    What's Cooking?

Working on my version of zuchini boats. Over sized zuchini, peeled, split lenghwise, and gutted. Nuked until basically done. Add garlic butter, some mild rotel with green chilis, Italian mixed cheese, and topped with chopped ham. Fast, easy and delicious. Served with a size of sliced maters and cottage cheese, I might die from the healthy aspect of it all. But still a summer favorite. Hopefully I will remember to take a pic. Also raided the herbs and chopped up some lemon basil and cilantro for the top. Wasn't bad, the filling was delicious, the squash itself was kind of bland.
  12. If you buy regulag waders bee leery of the BPS store brand stuff. I bought a set of hip boots instead of the slightly more expensive LaCrosse ones. The soles of the cheaper ones are thin and hard on your feet. I have a pair of lacrosse at work and they are much more comfortable.
  13. Walleye, crappie, bluegill I will happily eat in any size big enough to be worth the effort. Yellow perch I don't believe I have ever had, but basically all members of the perch family are delicious.
  14. Cheetahs never prosper.
  15. Yep th small crappie are plentiful on both arms. Went a week or so ago, caught a couple walleys, several bass, and several drum. Didn't crappie fish as I know the results right now, at least for me. The Teen Angler Championship is going to be Sunday July 16th. Weigh in will be below the dam at the ballfield if anyone is around and wants to watch.

    What's Cooking?

Since you don't "dang" I will give Wowza, good looking pasta sir.
  17. I was going to deliver, but now not sure when I will make it back to spfld. I probably shold just mail mine too. Poor kid is going to be days sorting stuff.
  18. Thought maybe Chief was fixing to noodle one out for ya in the one pic.
  19. I grew up in a 14 ft Richline v hull fishing stockton. You had to keep an eye one the weather and know your limitations. Still.see lots like it on Pomme and upper reaches of Truman.
  20. Is nobody going to ask how the music was?
  21. Jim, sounds like a nice smallie for sure. I have to resize my pics to 50% and save as medium quality in order to post them.
  22. Having seen the effect of checkpoints in a remote campground on the lake i will disagree on their effectiveness. We still have people asking about them and they haven't done one for a couple years, the word gets out quickly and stick with them.
  23. Heck if I want to go fishing it dont bother me if others want to go with me, unless I am going to one of my secret spots. If they don't want to go when I do go without them. I get calls from buddies with questions like want to meet me at the ramp in an hour because most of them know I will happily abandon whatever I was planning to go fishing. Fishing is always fun, fellowshipping (often spelled BSing with buddies is even better.) Sometimes it takes a call from a friend to get me off center and hook up the boat, otherwise I might be mowing grass, working in the garden or just sitting in the big chair.
  24. I hope he is so tired from catching salmon and his fingers so sore he can't post. Hopefully he will have pics and videos when he returns.
  25. There are multiple ways they could search. The signed permit being one, if they are given permission, and probably if they see fishing gear, coolers etc. in the vehicle. Also I believe the vehicles were still within the state park wich adds another layer of enforcement authority, although he MDC Agents and DNR Rangers have statewide authority I believe. I am glad they do random checkpoints, and glad that the "violator" ratio was that low, maybe that is evidence that the need for a saturation enforcement just isn't there. And I am sure the memory of the check point will last a while.
