  1. Elk hair caddis was this weeks tie. I will have to work on this one. I did not buy or make a hair stacker, so they are not as good as they should be. One I actually covered the eye of the hook with thread and glue. Oops.
  2. As I rode into Tombstone on my horse his name was Mac, I saw what I'll relate to you going on behind my back, it seems the folks were up in arms a man now had to die for believing things that didn't fit the laws they set aside. The man's name was I'm a Freak, the best that I could see, henwas an executioner, a hangman just like me.....
  3. Not sure if lungs loose their quality, but I know sunfish in ziplock bags quality decrease in the freezer.
  4. Top is my first. Guess it helps to take the class. I'm still not unhappy about it. I plan to try it out this weekend on some bluegill.
  5. Had my first class this evening. Bead head hare's ear nymph.
  6. I'm in a similar position. Crappie Max are the only ones I seem to find. I'm not a high dollar rod guy, so no info in that arena.
  7. I made some fish tacos today. But they just ignored them and swam away.
  8. This has no specific pattern followed. I was just trying to go though the basics. I will be trying it on the creek. And will report.
  9. So, my first fly has been tied. I'm not unhappy with it. Big, big, thank you to @BilletHead for sending me a vise. I found a materials lot on ebay, and went to Feathercraft for the other items needed. By the way, the worker at Feathercraft was top notch. I went in unprepared, with just the flies that would be tied in the course I'm taking online. I did not have the materials list. He helped me and 3 other shoppers at the same time and did not miss a beat.
  10. Some will get this. If you don't, it's a St Louis thing.
  11. Tip I picked up from a camping forum recently. Put all of your dry items that you want to keep cool in a miniature trash can, that fits in the cooler. Put the ice around the trash can. I'm kind of ashamed to admit I've never considered this. Think of sandwiches, meat that may absorb the melted ice water, baggies with left overs etc.
  12. I've had a bit of experience on the retail side of batteries, from watch batteries Managing RadioShack and to car/golfcart/ heavy equipment batteries at Advance Auto Parts. While I cant tell you the hows and whys, and I've heard many reasons, I've seen reverse polarization on many sizes of batteries. Even bought a pack of AA'S from Walgreens house brand had 2 in an 8 pack reversed. It is not very uncommon. First hand experience.
  13. Hello all, I'm Daryk. I'm newly beginning fly tying. Looking forward to seeing new posts. We have a great forum, jump on in.
  14. My head hurts. But I think I learned one or two things.
  15. Well, happy birthday to you.
  16. I understand the idea of poaching and selling, but to make it worth while, is a serious chore. Some may do it for a few extra bucks, but to make enough money to survive, you are going to be noticed. I don't think it is happening that much large scale. I cant believe our lakes could support it. The poachers are not getting the end price as their pay. Just as farmers are not getting the equivalent end price at the grocery stores.
  17. I have not caught or seen one in person. Inwoukd be similar to your situation of not knowing what to do, or how to handle it. Lucky for the current times, I have seen a few YouTube videos and understand that there are not many dangers, such as teeth, extreme razor sharp fins, etc.
  18. That is an even smaller town, but still along the Mississippi river. There is a lot of history of the town, but other than a few friends who live there, I dont go there. It has a ton of landmarks, but late Feb probably wont be very weather friendly for walking self tours. There are a few creek access points. The people are friendly. @Al Agnew may have more info.
  19. I think most of us are in similar situations with songs.
  20. I will gladly pay, I have considered using needle nosed vise grips. I'm a simple guy. I've held out for a long long time. Tjisnjust kind of got my attention. Free online class, been wanting to try my hand at it, and figured why not? No good reply.
  21. I'm looking for beginners equipment, something that someone may have collecting dust. I have nothing for tying, nor experience. I signed up for an online Orvis class, spur of the moment decision. The first class is a Bead Head Hare's Ear Nymph. I know what a bead head is, familiar with nymphs. The rest is Greek. Looking for around St Louis or with shipping reasonably priced equipment.
  22. Cant make it this year, unless by chance it gets canceled/ rescheduled. Wife has me that weekend.
  23. Look like good creek lures.
