Who is fishing snowmageddon this weekend?
Daryk Campbell Sr replied to gotmuddy's topic in General Angling Discussion
I wasn't able to fish, had to help my son change out a water pump. Not much snow, most melted quickly. 30 mins South of St Louis. Never mind the thing that looks like a Cedar Strip canoe in the making. That is for another thread. I'm not trying to hijack. -

All good ideas, my dad always told me to define and isolate the source. But, that being said, I have additional questions. I wonder is the smoker has cycles on and off, instantly. If it does, it may not be suitable for a GFCI circuit. If you read up on their uses, they are not recommended for refrigerators, due to cycle duties. Refrigerators often trip GFCI circuits and when that happens food gets ruined. Washing machines can also trip them due to the duty cycling. The power draw is strong st first, mimicking an electrical shock or surge and tripping the circuit. The smoker's thermostat may be turning the power draw quickly demanding power, throwing the circuit. So, if that is the issue, ther is really nothing wrong, just using the smoker in the wrong circuit to begin with. Oh, and don't connect 20amp receptacles to 15amp circuits. Your family is worth alot more than paying an electrician.

I bought an inflatable pontoon from Marketplace on Facebook. It came with 2 frames, one longer than the other. The guy who sold it had the longer frame on the pontoons, but they matched the smaller frame. He told me the longer frame was a Fishcat frame and the smaller frame is a Creek Company. Well, I decided that I would make new pontoons for the Fishcat because it has more options. It has a motor mount and a deck to stand on and fly fish, with a retractable rail. It is much more heavy duty than the Creek Company (yellow pontoons) in the pictures. I have a 10' raft that I was considering using as a donor for the float tubes . My thought was to cut out the floor and mount the frame to the raft. I decided not to do that. My next thought was to use an idea floated around the internet as a joke. I first got some pink insulation foam sheets, and cut them down. Made them to be about 10 feet long. That was what the guy who sold it to me said they were. Side note, he kept the original pontoons to be used as outriggers for his canoe. I glued the sheets together by using Great Stuff Foam spray. It will not melt the foam as many other adhesives will. Original Gorilla glue is good also. My first idea used to wrap them was pond liner. I wanted them protected from breaking off small particles of foam on rocks, branches, etc. It worked ok. I tied the ends together similar to sewing them. I wanted to find a better way. You can adhere the pond liner to itself with pvc cement and primer. The green stuff worked much better. This worked ok. After a couple trips, of tial and errors, the pond liner did get pinholes, from dragging on the bank and allowed water in. That made it take a little more effort to paddle the unit. But, it worked. Didnt look great, but I was on the water. The holes, wore bigger, and allowed more water, and made the unit much heavier and you could tell which side had more water, the unit would turn towards that pontoon when paddling. I was searching ideas such as fiberglass, shrink wrap, 1/4" wood frame, and many other materials throughout the build. I came across PMF, Poor Man's Fiberglass. The idea is really simple and effective. Coat the item to be "glassed" with wood glue. Adhere canvas or other material to the glue an allow it to soak the glue. Once cured, add another layer of wood glue, and once that cures, paint with exterior paint. I did it on a small boat I built and was very happy with the outcome. Decided to remove the pond liner and try it on my pontoons. I reshaped the pontoons, and began PMF. Spray painted the pontoons with my own version of camo, and have made a few adjustments an efforts to attach the pontoons to the frame. I am using a cam buckle system that connects to paracord that goes through the pontoons. Seems to be good. The pontoons were angled pretty hard last trip out, so I added some foam blocks to control the pontoons from 'rolling'. This write up is a little late, @Johnsfolly mentioned that he may have missed it, or I didn't do the full write up. I made sure to include pictures. I have some more to add.

Alright, I need to go fishing.... gonna post some a new topic on my newest project this afternoon. But, this was pretty funny.

My experience with barbecue is, it sucks. I would much rather get a plate from a barbecue food truck at a carnival than the chain restaurants. They are too expensive, and the quality is not great. I have had good plates here and there, never had a good brisket. Ever. Never had it in TX, so I cant compare. Back yard barbecue with all the fixings is my favorite. There used to be a place on hwy 30 around Scottsdale/ House Springs on the right side if you were going west. Little hole in the wall. I had it a couple times and was not disappointed.

Re-read your previous post, then mine. There was a joke, apparently not a good one, but a joke none the less. -

Best winter river tactic or bait??
Daryk Campbell Sr replied to snagged in outlet 3's topic in Smallmouth Talk
Oooooh, you know that is hush hush around here. You and I have been active long enough to know, you dont talk about smallies, you REALLY dont talk about smallies in the winter time. As they are more vulnerable due to clear water and tight congregation. They are not hard once you know where and then they are apparently easier than bluegill with a nightcrawler and bobber/indicator. But, we can't talk about that here, I mean, what do you think this is? A fishing forum? A place to talk fishing? EH'! -
My major downfall with these is, you have to drop the tent anytime you want to move the vehicle. i.e. tow the boat to the ramp, go to the store for forgotten items, ice, etc. I would also worry about clearance. I second a good cot.

I wipe down the dirty parts that I can reach. I have never bought into the power wash or complete engine degrease idea.

It was an awesome size bag. Sorry to derail the original intention of the post. I see the forum as an open discussion for anything. My apologies to you if you did not.

Any interest in one of my hobbies?
Daryk Campbell Sr replied to rps's topic in General Angling Discussion
This is out of my league, but interesting to me. I am not sure I can tell much difference between Berkley Lightning, vs my higher dollar Cabellas Guide rods. As most know, I'm not as fishing educated as others, but I enjoy learning it. I just dont enjoy blowing the budget just to learn. The tuition can be hard to justify. That being said, what would some of the benefits be? I have micro guides on one rod, not sure I care for them. Not sure the rod is best suited with the best reel. I've read, and watched many videos, and honestly they seem to contradict each other, and it seems the only way is trial and error.
