  1. It's never too early. It can be too late but it's never, ever too early.
  2. I like them. I would leave them the current length and hit the water with some scissors. Make some small adjustments until you get what you want. Or more importantly what the fish want.
  3. Just some classic rock in the office this morning.
  4. Some people shouldn’t own boats.
  5. I'm guilty of that too. But at 52 it's getting old. Planning on doing it this fall. Gotta lose a few cheeseburgers I have stored up first.
  6. If the ground turns white I will definitely be walking a creek or river somewhere. Might even have a rod with me. And plenty of camera gear.
  7. I need to add a little life into the one in my office. It's 90 gallons and is currently hosting 1 gill, 1 minner, and 1 crawdaddy. My plans are to add some other minnows at some point and another gill or two. On the wish list is a logperch or two and a grass pickerel if I can find a small one. And I would take a little catfish if it came along. No way I add all of those, I'm not an idiot, but we will see what happens when it gets warmer. Would also like to add some type of natural weed but I'm not sure if that is going to work.
  8. Made a little pitstop headed to Wichita, KS this week and found this happening. Yes I have seen the bigger ones on TV but this was pretty impressive to see in person. The sound it made was amazing. Unfortunately I didn't have the tools to capture correct audio and mostly you just hear wind.
  9. No way I land that on 7X. No way. Nice Job Phil. Congrats on a beautiful fish.
  10. Same as it's been my entire life. Catch a fish, then catch another. I burned myself out on goals and numbers and where I placed when I was much younger. I understand the drive and I get it. Sometimes I even miss it. I'm going to spend more time on the water. That's easy once it get's warm. My wife got in a kayak for the first time late in the summer and she is heavily addicted to just floating along while I do whatever it is that I am doing. I have to try some different things. I've turned into a monotonous bum. And I'm going to use more flies this year for smallmouth. The better fish I battled at the end of summer all came on a fly. They didn't respond to the regular lures that everyone is throwing. I've found that I'm really not that bad at casting while sitting in a canoe or kayak. Now keep in mind it's not bad from the already horrible casting that I do normally. But practice makes perfect so I think I will be as good as I have ever been if I focus on that this year. And I might take a pic or two. Actually building my own creation to put the GoPro down in some root wads and some deep holes or ledges. Had the whole lighting system designed around a specific LED bulb. Guess what doesn't exist in the world right now?
  11. Our neighborhood used to have a ton of rabbits running around. Now we have a bunch of cats. They aren’t feral. Just regular house cats that are allowed to roam freely. And everyone is fine with it. But my dog gets out and I’m a horrible human. If she was allowed to roam freely like the cats we wouldn’t have a cat problem here.
  12. I think there should be a penalty for not playing in a bowl game. You took a scholarship to be part of a team. If you decide to quit on your team then the scholarship should have to be paid back in full. Shouldn't be a big issue since they are getting that big NFL contract.
  13. Best bet would be to go to KC. Lots of good choices there. I've had great BBQ in Texas too. Ate at the Salt Lick in Driftwood back in the summer. I'll take all the places in KC over them.
  14. True. I really don't remember any bad fishing trips. Hell we went to the NFOW. I had a horrible slip and fall less than an hour after getting there. I was somehow able to make it back into the house. With an extreme amount of pain I was able to get my boots and waders off, get comfy pants on, fix myself a drink, and somehow make it to the couch. It was excruciating. About the time I get almost comfy Wrench shows up with some moron dog that decided he needed to be in my lap and I spilt that drink all over me. I hurt too bad to go through all that again so I just set there the rest of the night like that. Then it rained all night long which shut down any chance of anyone catching a fish. Still some great memories from that trip.
  15. Sounds pretty ignorant to me, but I'm not surprised.
  16. These kids were amazing live.
  17. They like to keep it interesting!! I think if Chris Jones would have played it would have been a bit tougher for the Chargers.
  18. That grind was a good time but some of us were looking for something different to scratch that itch. I won’t say I don’t miss that at times but I’m pretty happy lazily floating down a stream not being stressed out about putting 5 decent ones in the live well.
  19. I agree. Just remember, you and I are not fishing the same kind of water most of the time. I only fish the spring run. You are out on open water kicking their posterior most of the year. One day I hope to be cool like you.
  20. Clousers and wiggle minnows are all you need.
  21. Yep. Doesn't matter if it's 30 feet, 30 yards, or 30 miles if someone else is doing it.
  22. Doesn't look like you pulling that sled though? Is that the ginger?
  23. That would require a trip to the flyshop and that ain't happening. They probably only have one of them anyway.
  24. That sucks. Used to be a decent place to spend a cold winter afternoon.
