  1. Slinging a Ned around and catching 5 lb. smallies would be a hoot.
  2. Yeah, later in my career, I did a lot of presentations, seminars and training classes. Fly out, do some talking, fly home. Flying, and the whole airport scene gets old real fast, but other than that it's a good way to make a living. Work doesn't have to be some kind of burn out experience. I had some good times, worked with good people some of whom are lifelong friends. I've been to every major city in the US and Canada, met a lot of people. Also always found a lot of satisfaction in doing my job well. However is sure is nice being retired, mainly because my time is my own. I didn't mind working so much except that it just took up too much of my time.
  3. Speaking of vultures, had to take the dog to the vet this afternoon. Got stuck in about a 2 mile backup on hwy 71 on the way to the vet. Right off the side of the road was a road killed deer. About 8 vultures around it chowing down, hopefully no one seeing it got traumatized. 😁
  4. I can't think of anyplace around there but the dam store. Lost bridge marina has a small store, never been in there, I doubt they have minnows but it may be worth a call to see if they have them.
  5. I fish Beaver lake by the dam end quite a bit. it might not be a primo carp destination for size, but there are plenty swimming around in the 5-10 lb. range. Indian Creek campground has some camping spots right on the water, with a nice grass bank to set up on and a big shelf of water to fish. If a person did the chumming thing you'd have some great opportunity to catch carp, heck you could probably get some without chumming. It's not for me, but if someone wanted to do a combined camping and carp fishing trip locally, that would be my suggestion.
  6. Bill, that would be great, I'm up for it.
  7. Yep that is pretty neat. Look forward to hearing about how the fishing was.
  8. Same here, except I went the US Army route. If I had gone straight to college it would've been wasted on me. GI bill paid my tuition, I'd average 9-12 hours a semester, took me 6 years to get my 4 year degree, worked full time while going to school. I know a gal that got divorced at age 30 or so, had 2 young girls to take care of, had no job market skills but went to nursing school, got her nursing degree, worked for a while and decided to become a Nurse Practitioner and is now making well over $100k/year. I firmly believe that anyone that has the desire and drive can still create a pathway to a good job/career for themselves. It may not be easy, there will be challenges and obstacles, but you just got to overcome them and get it done.
  9. Sorry to hear that, you have my sympathy.
  10. Yep, Beardsley, AKA The Land of Giants. Aunts Creek is a good backup spot in the extremely unlikely possibility that they aren't on fire in Beardsley.
  11. No Shakespeare in college English? Always thought that was a mainstay. I remember being forced to read Merchant of Venice in high school. My high school self would have been perfectly happy if Shakespeare had been expunged from the curriculum, man did I hate English class.
  12. Nice to know the Fortrex will fit into the Ultrex mount, one of these days I will get an Ultrex (probably). You guys aren't being very helpful coming up with all these reasons that one should have an Ultrex. 🙂
  13. My Fortrex refuses to break. I kinda want it to so I can get an Ultrex. Or maybe a Force, or maybe something still on the drawing boards. Love the idea of Spot Lock.
  14. That's pretty neat. Planning to fish out of it next OA One bass tourney?
  15. Cool, I talked to a buddy of mine today that reported about the same results, some fish deep on spoons and a couple on jigs. Mostly spots.
  16. @Phil S - Hey just got back from fishing there with a buddy of mine and today was just lousy. We caught a few dinks, and one that may have gone 13". Complete turn around from yesterday. Anyway, I was using primarily a brown 1/2 oz jig with a Rage Craw trailer.
  17. Launched at dawn, spent a few minutes looking for top water striper activity, didn't see any, so went on back in Indian to throw jigs for smallmouth. There was a really good early bite that just died at about 8 AM. Caught 9 with three being keeper sized. Fish were around timber in 10-20 FOW. Surface water temp was 82.
  18. Beautiful fish! I'm beginning to wonder if we'll see much of a top water striper bite this spring/summer.
  19. Used to anchor in the Columbia river 20 FOW water while sturgeon fishing. A few feet of chain attached to the anchor, might have 70-100 feet of rope out, once that anchor bit, you weren't going anywhere. But that was in a 17' fiberglass boat, anchored over the bow in current, that current pulls you in one direction and keeps force on the anchor pulling it into the mud.
  20. The President is a great reel at that price. I've gone to braid/floro leader too, better casting distance with braid, and a lot less line snarls. And as Pete mentions, if you want to try another line size, you can swap out the leader rather than re-spool.
  21. Dang Erik, that is a nice place.
  22. Yeah that looks to be a really BIG bass, congrats!
  23. That is one heck of a deep diving Wart, it will be interesting to see.
  24. Hard to figure out what they are doing, Newport Gauge got down to near 12, then they pulsed some water out of Bull and TR, gauge got up to 13, looks again like they are letting some water out in a similar pattern to yesterday. No updates on their Facebook page or website that I could find.
  25. I have a Hamby, it has been on my boat for 9 years and it is still snug and secure. I have no experience with the Keel Guard brand. Might need to try fishing the Keitechs a little faster myself. I always let them drop and slow roll them.
