joeD Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 For me, it is a price point problem with the Yeti. And weight. I don't have enough bank to afford a $400 cooler, good enough as it seems to be. And all you penny pinching martyrs out there, continue to pat yourself on the back for your money saving ways. "Cause that's what it's about, right? Saving money? Not spending? Thrift as a means to happiness and fulfillment. PS: My friend is an excellent divorce lawyer, Let me know.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 i bought a nice refrigerator for my house for 500, and it makes its own ice. Most people buy Yeti's for the sticker
fishinwrench Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Joe, divorce lawyers only become excellent if they always have females for clients.
grizwilson Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I have a coleman and igloo, the coleman is better for me. Yeti are expensive and heavy for my uses. check out: g Daryk Campbell Sr 1 “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
Nick Williams Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 I agree with everyone, the Yeti's price tag is exorbitant. But, the reason I was asking was for comparison between the Yeti and it's price/popularity vs. other brands of rotomolded coolers such as the Grizzly, Orion, Igloo, Orca, Engle, etc. On the flip side, for anyone that just needs to keep drinks cold for a day of fishing, there's not point in spending several hundred $$ to do it. But for multiple day float trips, long road trips, wanting to look like your the shiz, a beefier cooler is almost a must. - Nick
Unimog Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I got a yeti last year as a gift and have yet to use it. I'd seen the above video and that was enough to convince me that a Coleman extreme was all I needed. I just can't see parading around in my pickup with a $350 cooler in the back waiting to get stolen. I also noticed for the size of the cooler the inside is quite small. Ham 1
Ham Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Coosa is making coolers to fit their yaks. I'm sure they will be inexpensive though. Jeff Maberry 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
jdmidwest Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 They are a fine target for thieves. Maybe they will build in a security system into the next generation. I have a friend with a retail shop that just started carrying them. I asked about one for my testing use at wholesale. Not much markup in them. Even at cost, they are way to rich for my blood. The key to a good cooler is a tight fitting, insulated lid. Most coolers fail at that point. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. On a several day trip, I use one large cooler to keep extra ice, etc.and one for drinks and use. $5 worth of dry ice will make your supply cooler last for days if you only open it once or twice per day. But it will freeze your drinks. g “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
Feathers and Fins Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Here is my deal with coolers, If your going for a day trip and not leaving the area of your car/truck then get a http://www.igloocoolers.com/Thermoelectric/All-Thermoelectric/Iceless-40-With-110V-Converter plug it in and its cold all day and for about 100 bucks beats any cooler out there. If you are going on a Weekend trip (SIZE) matters as you can only take so much and a 40qt to 152qt depending on space and people with a couple blocks of dry-ice will work perfectly fine just like they have for decades. What Yeti has done is make a "NAME" for themselves as a status symbol just like NIKE did or any other manufacture and they charge for the NAME. Because they know people will want to have the "Status Symbol" to show off. Do yourselves a favor, Buy a Igloo or coleman for a 1/4 the cost and spend the rest on the stuff to go in it. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
