All seriousness, not all jet boats are created equal. Some boats make more wake than others, regardless of the engine size. Yes, there many jerks in jet boats, but the act of slowing down just for courtesy, might just shake your canoe even more than staying at higher speeds. a little bit of courtesy on both sides goes a long way

I think the one's that tanvat is complaining about are all the geniuses just running up and down the river. Not a fishing rod in the boat. They think its a good time to see how close they can get or spray you with their prop. It's why I will not return to the Current River. I don't mind a guy that is out fishing running by me. He can go full blast. at a crawl or anywhere in between. I know that I probably won't see him again until late in the day when he runs back. But those others you will see 10 or 15 times in an afternoon. Just back and forth all day long. There is no sense in that.

I'll just say it.....I hate most trout fisherman I have encountered. They are the only people I know that will walk right up next to you on a pristine river with miles of river to fish but, if they see you catch a trout they will literally come right to you and fish the same 10 feet of river you are fishing. Also why in the ###### do they walk back up the river they just walked down??? can't you just walk up the bank or the trails below Baptist??? Do you have to walk back up the river like a complete gaper with your Orvis hat that looks like it was made for Richard Simmons.

This totally made me laugh. I'm glad there are others out there who love razzing on trout fishermen!

I've been a river rat my entire life and do understand the "issues" as stated by both sides of the jetboat vs canoeist debate. In my younger years I've been the guy who paddled the pools and pulled the riffles with my canoe tied to my waist and my pole ready to go. I always tried to find waters away from motorized boats and went as often in the middle of the week as possible just for quiet water and calmer fish. Now, in my 60's with a bad leg I own a 1448 jet boat and I fully intend to use it on any of the waters that I can get on without tearing up my equipment. I'm not able to paddle all day anymore or walk the riffles but I am able to fish. If I'm merely driving my boat without a fishing pole I have a right to do that too. 

Having learned how obnoxious jet boats can be I am not going to be one of "those guys" but I am going to run my boat, as is my right. I enjoy meeting all the people out on the river with the exception of the rude or drunks. If my engine annoys you I'm sorry, I get it, but the river is a resource for all to enjoy. I assure you that I'm not out there merely to annoy you. I have small patience for huge collections of canoes and tubes leaving beer cans and debris in the river, playing loud music of any kind, and getting in my way but I just pass them and move on. They have a right to be there too. And, if I see the law being broken and have a signal you can bet that I'll be calling the sheriff.

With so many people out on the water these days this might be the first year that I include my 9mm as part of my boating equipment. My tolerance level for stupidity seems to go down while my age goes up. We all would have a better time if we took the word "hate" out of our thoughts or at least left it in the truck back at the ramp.

Even though it makes the wake worse, I still try to slow down when encountering a canoer or kayaker. At least they know you respect them. But sometimes I wish they would show equal respect, like not standing in the only spot to go upstream and not getting out of the way. It's tough, but I've only encountered 2 or 3 people in my life that acted like jerks. Most people will act right when giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I have not had a lot of experience dealing with jet boats or their owners. That's because I got totally fed up with the rude attitude many of them had and just didn't go to that part of the river anymore. I have floated most of the Current and a lot of the other canoeable rivers in the Ozarks. And the problems I have had was due to the joy riders and tournament anglers. If I am wading and a guy in a jet boat cuts you off from the bank your fishing because he saw you catch a fish. it gets irritating. I have had this happen more than once the Current below Two Rivers, both times by tournament anglers.I love the rivers but the jet boaters make it hard for others to enjoy them.

I love my jet and wontbe getting rid of it anytime soon.  Of course if you see me then I'm just on my to a fishing spot lol.  No jet boat on plane should throw a two foot wake.

I do the same as Mitch...I slow down to no-wake speed when passing canoe people, even though I know I'm not throwing that much of a wake by going by them full speed and I'd personally rather have a jetboat go by me at full speed. 

But I simply don't use mine in the summer on crowded rivers.  One of these days there's going to be a really bad accident involving some motorhead and a canoeist, tuber, or swimmer on one of the crowded Ozark streams, and then people will start clamoring for something to be done about it.  When you get right down to it, the situation in the summer on these rivers is a lot like having a highway that goes from four lane to a narrow two lane with no shoulders, with no speed limit, that's full of sports cars, bicyclists, and little old ladies pushing shopping carts.

The only river I power on in the summer is the white.  The jet is only for cold weather.
