I recently acquired an Australian Cattle Dog for a companion. She's working out great but hasn't been in the boat yet. She's at the age now it will be OK to take her. Behaves very well in the truck so ready for the next step. Love to take my dogs fishing. Had several really good boat dogs over the last 50 or so years, labs, beagle, and JRT. The Heeler will probably be my last one.

I love dogs and have had them all my life. favorites are German Shepard and Border Collies. However I have no desire to have one in my boat while fishing, but have seen a lot of happy dogs and owners in boats together.

If the water is calm and slick it's cool to bring along your pup, but to have a dog bouncing around in a bass boat on rough water, claws trying to dig into the carpet, that's just uncool.
