Sometimes reality just bites the big one... I've tried really hard to rod 'n reel a flattie like that for ~45 years, and this guy gets one by complete accident. 

Oh well, good for him.

I caught a 50lb flathead on a jig on sept 3, 4 years ago.  Completely by accident.  17lb line and a medium heavy rod was pushed to the limits.

Have been catching a lot of cats at night lately.  None that big but one or two a night.   Surprised that big girl was eating in the daylight.

Guys, this is going to sound a little out there, but I saw a fish jump on Saturday.  Call me crazy, but I would swear to you that it was an alligator gar.  I was on plane and within sight of Kimberling City, but I would swear.  The fish was huge and almost completely out of the water.  I'd estimate it to be every bit of 55" long and I swear an alligator shaped mouth.  Anyhow, thought I'd throw that out there.

I wonder if Short kept that Cat? And I thought he was retiring from fishing? Maybe I read it wrong.

I was just over at the Opens blog http://www.bassmaster.com/blogs/bass-pro-shops-bassmaster-opens-blog and it looks like they are catching a few "regular" fish. Dumb work is keeping me here and not there....I would at least like to watch....

I suspect this has to do with the oxygen level below 25 feet being almost nonexistent, therefore nearly all of the fish are up where anglers can get to them.

Champ I think you are right on - It seems that Brian Snowden is under the same impression, or he called you for advice  ,that since the thermoclime did not happen this year the fish are up shallow - he thinks 40lbs will be the winning weight.

On another note, I have never seen the  paddle fish jumping like they are now.  I have almost hit at least 2 or 3 everytime out.  They are jumping lake wide in droves.  Looks like Grand lake up here.

I have see paddlefish jumping also around flat creek.   I have also heard some loud splashes and im sure they are the culprit.  Also seen some pretty big gar coming completely out of the water.
