The Fluer de Li is really good at the Carousel Bar. My wife really liked that on our last Nola trip.

I actually know a lot more about scotch than your average non drinker. The whole peat scorch (liquid band aid adhesive) vs non peat scotch is interesting. Adding a splash of water to release more flavor. The Japanese whiskey made in the Scottish traditions is another interesting story. All the other whiskey variations.

I see no reason to add another unnecessary expense in my life. I appreciate good fishing gear. Whiskey is a taste I will never acquire. Leaves more money for unnecessary expensive topwater lures.

Regarding Bourbon vs. Scotch:  I was a scotch drinker but the single malts have priced me out.  I liked Oban but there is no way I can justify buying it.  I now drink bourbon -- it seems to go better with my pipe smoking.  I like Dickell 12 year old -- I think is the best combination of quality and price.

You all need to come to the dark side. Irish whiskey. The cheap stuff is better than Old Crow or Cutty Sark. Red Breast 21 year old is the nectar of the gods.

I know the feeling. At one point I had one child at Brown in Rhode Island. Another was at Tufts in Boston. Neither was on full scholarship. I found solace in rugby and Bushmills.
