Mike - when you start bringing accurate data to a key board conversation its a real buzz kill!

How do you expect us to continue making plans far beyond our ability to make anything happen!!  ^_^

Vernon, thanks for giving some explanation, I have mostly stayed out of it this time.  You are correct in that the "plan" is the driving force by regulation and has some impact even into lawsuits.  As long as the approved plan is being followed the COE has some legal protections, begin to go outside of the plan and it causes damage upstream or downstream suddenly there are possible legal ramifications.  There is also a point where the protection of the dam itself becomes priority number 1, in reality it is always the primary concern, however in most situations it isn't a concern.  Predicted rainfall regardless of how accurate it turns out to be is something that plays into planning for what could happen but isn't something that is used in current operations.  It makes a big difference how and where the rain falls, over the whole drainage basin, over part of it, the intensity and duration etc.  The lake is currently doing exactly what it was designed to do and more, the current is somewhere around 120% of its rated flood storage. (Taken from Phil info) Honestly I am surprised they haven't increased releases to the 2015 levels or more.

From the Harter House parking lot.

Honestly, it's looked like that in every flood. I can remember driving across the bridge, and the dam, with the wind pushing the tops of whitecaps over the road. Makes the closure that much more ominous.

I recall the same thing and also drove across when that was occurring and this present closure seems foolish, unneeded and premature.

That high quality Drone video that is going around that showed MoDOT personnel on the South end of the bridge didn't even show any wet pavement on the causeway from wind driven water like in previous years.

Apparently and hopefully it crested at 934.53 and is showing a slight drop but I wonder how accurate the measurements can be with these 5 foot rollers the unceasing wind is creating.

They are closing Kimberling City bridge and highway 86 at dogwood is closed..it's washed out.

After seeing good, close pictures of the incredible erosion of the West end 86 bridge over Little Indian Creek abutment on the underside of the bridge there is no way I would advise anyone to use that bridge but we have to assume they know what they're doing.   Maybe.  http://www.hometowndailynews.com/2017/05/01/hwy-86-reopens-at-dogwood-canyon-other-roads-reopen/

I have always understood it to be a winter pool of 917. If that's not correct my bad.
