Mitch f Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 I guy I know who owns a Tackle shop once told me of a guy who had tremendous success Carolina rigging tubes with a Gamakatsu EWG treble hook. He would run the line through the front of the bait and out the back. Then he would attach the treble hook and pull the line forward until the hook nested itself at the base of the tube tentacles. The EWG trebles point slightly inward making it almost weedless, if memory serves, he might've even skin hooked the tips. Apparently the hook up ratio was phenomenal. I'm guessing he ate a lot of fish coz it's likely he killed a bunch. dtrs5kprs 1

fishinwrench Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 I've done it, but with a Grigsby HP hook. Same effect but less hassle when a tube gets torn up.

I started pouring them without the screws, and use the same head for stupid tubes or an elaztech bait as a shakey head. The EWG lets you skin hook the point, and pins them much more reliably than a round bend. That rigged top pic with a jig similar to the bottom pic, but a smaller EWG hook, is the deal I've been using for last few years. I have a fraction of the hang ups and I have not yet gut hooked a fish. I do think I miss a few, but the fact that the hook hits the mouth and not the gut is worth a few misses to me. Finding the right jigs is tough. These are like the ones I prefer. http://www.bluerocktackle.com/store/p16/Stupid_Tube_Hook_(10_pack).html Donna G, Champ188 and HardHead 3 I'd like to thank my FUTURE sponsers: Falcon Rods, Jewel Bait Co, and Seagar

Best I saw on eBay was $1 each and I would have had to snip the screw loc -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

Between that head and Dave's Ozark Finesse heads I don't really need anything else in the boat these days for anything except swimbaits and they're fine for those as well. Donna and Champ's recommended War Eagle head for swimbaits is my personal favorite for that application however. Bo's heads are so weedless it's ridiculous and they really do hook 'em in the top of the head every time! abkeenan 1 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups."
