I believe the correct term is "Extreme".

At least I think that's what Zona said.

No, WE did that.  And I am as guilty as anyone else.  I didn't quit competing because it was getting rediculous and I was concerned about relocating fish,  I quit because I wasn't willing to do what it takes to stay on top and I figured if I wasn't going to give it my everything... then why even bother.    I certainly would have been excited about a change in the scoring method though.  Immediate score and release is absolutely the best thing all around, and it blows my mind that so few seem to be in favor of it.

I always hate to hear someone say that we need to "grow the sport".  There's enough of us out there, it doesn't get better if even more people take up bass fishing.  Nothing wrong with taking kids or a friend out to fish, but the reason should be to take them fishing, not because we need to "grow the sport".

I'm going to ask one of the guys that runs a big tournament circuit and see what his thoughts on that are. I do know they like the big crowds at the weigh ins and the big hero poses with the fish. And I'm pretty sure that's what the sponsors like too and that's probably where the problem begins.

A couple of years ago I spent $36 on a new baitcaster. It has outperformed the high dollar Lew's it hangs out with. Yeah it's not made out of magnesium but the fish have decided to cut me some slack on that.

What's the brand?

I'm a dinosaur who does not favor competition in all things.  And no, WE didn't do it.  I've never ever fished in a tournament of any kind and I never will.  You and your kind did it.

No one is guilty or responsible, it simply has grown into something very popular and some things need to be addressed.

This sounds like the argument for not keeping score in youth sports.  There is indeed culpability, like it or not.
