Them cat fish only got that big because there were no gig fishers on that part of the Mississippi and Missouri.  Now you posted that there will be a rush to gig that area. Then there will be no more carp left there either.

That’s not actually the discussion

It’s what you turned it into. I’m done with the holier than thou crowd. Peace.

Well the discussion started out that it was OK to miss identify smallmouth while gigging.

Then it turned into we need to ban all giggling because that is why there are no big smallmouth.

Then it was Missouri does not know how to manage for Smallmouth just look at all the other states around us.

And then you threw in pictures of large catfish.

So I think Ronnie is right in that the discussion has turned into  you can't catch a big fish you are not a real fisherman.

Wrong and wrong.  As usual.  This thread was started to honestly show that bass get wrongfully gigged by very experienced giggers.   All the time.  It went sideways when you got nasty and derailed it.  That's okay though. You have a very obvious and detailed agenda

Average joes buy more  licenses than trophy joes do, y"all need to stop and thank them for paying most of the management cost so that you can play. Trophy management just might cost that support if the regulations are too slanted against them.

Personally I have no real desire to catch just large fish, rather catch many fish; big ones count the same as tiny ones when you are there for the act of fishing in a beautiful place. No lake in the world has good fishing, none. And if you have to have to measure it in inches or in pounds, you have missed to point.

huh????.... Trophy management might cost the support of people who illegally and mistakenly gig game fish???

this is pure entertainment hahahahahaha

Well at least you didn't insinuate we have an itchy vagina.

I understand some don't care how big of a fish you catch.....I get it, some like to marvel at 7 inch Spotted Bass they just caught and reminisce about the beautiful area they caught it from.....I totally get it.

I like to catch bigger fish and more often and I don't take illegal activities sitting down that affect my local rivers and streams and the fish populations.

You can call it bitching and moaning and I really don't care, just like you don't care about my bitching and moaning....it's all good.

We enjoy what we like how we like it but, I am not making insinuations that men have itchy vaginas because they are concerned about something that is important to them.

yeah well reading about what some dude cooked after watching the FoodNetwork on a fishing forum makes for a long Winter as well.....many threads on here to make for some laughter, including this one.

I'm not the one insinuating alleged men have an itchy vagina on here.

I’d rather read about proper preparation of beef tongue than another pissing match about gigging. And I’d rather read about just about anything else but proper preparation of beef tongue, for a little perspective on where I stand on this. Wally— any room for me in that fox hole?

I can only imagine what this all would all look like to a newcomer to the forum.   How embarrassing. I got sucked in.   I'm out.   Need to hit the river.  Actually, just seen a giant buck.   Think I'll climb in a tree.

I honestly don't know what the effect of bad gigging practices is on a statewide level, but on the river I fish most frequently (my home water) it is a genuinely significant issue.  So it fires me up big-time.

For the most part it is one single, rather large, family and their friends/co-workers.  It honestly wouldn't be hard to bust them and make them quit it for good, but the jackasses in charge of doing that won't freakin' do it.

math challenged? So, prohibit a method, say worm dunking that was mentioned, (gig/bow/ Treble hooks/whatever) and the folks that practice that method will not buy permits, get it? Loss of revenue, see?

Heck, they might even turn around and prohibit your method or mine.

The current extra special smallmouth management says I cannot keep any pan size smallmouth  on the nearby river, why would I buy a permit to fish if it's illegal to keep them? Again loss of revenue. Keep the trend going and soon only the few will have to pay all the cost of fish management, straw and camel?
