Man this is not cool and completely unwarranted. Skeeter lives on the lake and cares about it immensely. You are barking up the wrong tree. He is a friend of mine and this thread is pissing me off bigtime.

I'm confused as to what is going on here, and what the concern is ?

Close the valve, vent the pipe so it can clear out, then clean up the spill as best you can.  Allowing it to slowly continue to dribble out is way more dangerous/hazardous than just getting it over with.

I was there Thursday working. Didn’t notice a thing. Friday afternoon was called by someone who listened to the answering machine and called emergency contact number. Mine. Gentlemen turned off the valve which was at the leak. No 700’ of line was drained do to the lovely and expensive back flow valves that’s in place. Tanks are completely isolated. There are other valves down the dock for just this situation. They were shut off. Picked up all necessary supplies 7:30 when L and J opened. Used an emergency spill kit with water socks. Changed the line out and it’s still empty. The DNR response team actually came down and commended me on my work. With their report to the Corp, the Corp called to let us know what a great job we done and are really likening the modernization and improvements that are taking place. My only beef with any off this at all is I know the majority of our customers and if you CALL the marina, my number is the first one you hear “In case of an emergency call”. Thanks everyone for your concerns, we are only human and with the lake still going down, which was DNR’s conclusion of the pressure on the pipe, I am trying my best to bring the marina into the future with upgrades. Please, once again, pick up a phone and call me in an emergency. It’s on the answering machine and it’s right here. 417-699-0143. Skeeter I think you already have it. Come down this spring and check out our future plans on removing outdated and bringing in new.

Good job Baxter!

Exactly, I know i sure appreciate the upgrades that are going on at the marina. These guy's are taking old infrastructure and trying to upgrade it the best they can. It all takes time and money, and i for one thank you for the effort!

Is anyone equipped to operate a telephone anymore?

Kinda my thought.

Maybe Joe Homeowner can't work a phone.

Maybe this is a little more technical than we thought.

FYI to all the usual and new snarky commenters...the individual who recognized the problem and knew where to turn off the supply valves is one of our wonderful Volunteer First Responders with the local F.D.  He immediately called the main and Emergency phone number(s) for the Marina after shutting off the supply valves on THURSDAY !!  I know him, as do most in the area, and he left messages on all the recorders because no one answered their phones.

When the weather warmed up more on Friday and more people ventured out they called the same number(s), 24 hours later, when they noticed the gas slick floating on the water, the split-open metal supply pipe and the strong gasoline odor.  The neighborhood was legitimately worried about a potential fire.  Good to hear there was a response from the Marina personnel on Friday because only someone well equipped and knowledgeable about the dock and valve layout could have remedied this situation.

Any other helpful comments ? Wise or otherwise ?
