Disagree!   He was in a spot to save lives if he just did his job.  He was paid to protect those kids. He didn't.    The Sheriff of Broward County should be fired.  Four of his deputies hid while the kid that they knew (39 times)was on tilt.   Most men would not have to be motivated.

I have to agree.   What was the sense in all of the alleged training he did during his career, if when it was time to use it he ran the other way?

I'm sure he would have immediately pounced on any kid smelling like reefer though.

What's the point of having armed school security if they're not expected to do what they can to stop someone from shooting students for ten minutes or so? Better to put up a sign that says pretty please don't hurt anyone on campus and save the money. Sorry. Cannot accept inaction on anyone's part who has a chance to stop something like this from continuing - regardless of personal danger.

The irony of this post is all of the attacks on police in the past few years for using too much force, corruption, being too heavily armed and buying surplus military weapons.  From Ferguson to all of the other riots. Now we pile on them for not doing enough.

If gun control happens, this is the police force we will have left to protect us from crazy.

I think it would be one thing if the guy was in the building, the shooting started down the hall and he was able to assess the situation and react with some understanding. From what I’ve heard, he was outside. That’s a heckuva lot different. Sure, he could have quickly rigged a rope to a tree, swung in feet first through a window and made a picture-perfect landing/kill shot, but...

I’m anxious to hear the whole story. If we simply conclude the blame is all on this guy, then we’re more likely to write it off to him being a coward and not work to fix that part of the equation.

And, that’s really only a part of the equation.

Yes, in a very basic sense that’s right. Wonder if his actions differed from his training?

Let's hope so.  Very troubling stories coming out about Broward County. More deputies hiding according to fellow LEO.

Ok, you can blame the security guard. Cops are not that good tactically unless they are Swat. Don't think they ever have to keep their posterior low and crawl through mud & obstacles under fire. Eat a donut, most are great at that.

There is no way you would stand outside and let that go on for another ten minutes if you were able to give it a try regardless of personal danger.
