If he ever buys a NEW boat he will pretty much be forced to.  That's the way they operate.   Merc offers deals almost impossible to refuse, for the folks that rig and sell new boats.   Almost every new boat comes with a Merc hanging on it.  It's pretty much a force play.   Johnny M. could put an end to that, and I hoped that he would when he started gobbling up boat companies, but apparently the greed got the best of him.

That’s a good point; I forgot about the ‘new’ boat angle; you’re exactly right; Merc doesn’t leave much choice at all. :-(

I have two buddies that have the G2 250 and absolutely love them. Great hole shot, mid range punch and love the power steering and gas consumption.

I know and have fished with Nick, he is impeccable on maintenance and doesn't drive like a maniac.  Still he gets the shaft.

That's BS!  I can't believe a company would do that after a guy spends that much money with them.

Lemon Law?

Find a good lawyer/angler and have them send Mercury a letter...

From what I am able to find out, Mercury is terminating production on all 2-strokes (totally throwing in their cards/folding to Evinrude), and they are taking a crap on most of the Platinum Warranty contracts they sold.  Cheaper for them to settle potential lawsuits than it would be to continue honoring the warranties.

This really puts Mercury dealers in an uncomfortable place, as THEY are the ones who have relationships with these people and have to look them in the face.

Have I not been calling this for years???  Oh yes I have!  :D

Latest news from Mercury is that they are dumping the Opti-max/Pro XS.  No more 2-stroke anything from Mercury going forward.  Good luck getting OEM parts for them after the warranty period on the last production line of 2-strokes plays out.

Just as well AFAIC.

Heard this from a dealer in the StL area as well. No more Merc 2 strokes.

So how does this jive with Johnny blowing up all non-Mercury sales and service at both Bass Pro and Cabela's?

To the uninformed and naive (me) it would seem as if he's painting himself into a corner here as are all of the other Mercury exclusive dealers.

Does this mean that Evinrude and Yamaha might actually win out in this deal?

only complaint ...it LIKES the gas.

That's nothing to complain about.  Best thing you can do with the fuel you just bought is to burn it up as quickly as you can.  Because the shelf life on that stuff is shorter than you think.
