Flysmallie Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 I spent the majority of my 20's on Pomme de Terre and have yet to land a musky. I never fished for them but you would think the amount of time that I spent bass fishing I would have caught one. I can only think of two fish I ever hooked that were probably musky. @Harps fly fishes Fellows quite a bit in the cooler months for musky. Hey Jeff, why don't you tell them how many musky you have caught fly fishing Fellows?
MOPanfisher Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 Muskie are unique in that they avoid those who fish for them and haunt those of us who don't fish for them and don't want them to bite our lures. Fortunately except when I am walleye fishing I am not in their normal haunts. I think muskie are the invention of lure companies, so they can sell replacement crankbaits. fishinwrench Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 I've never caught one either, but I had a pretty big one attack a short bass as I was bringing it in I caught some big Pike in MN and I assume the strike and the fight is similar to Musky. Pike seem more appealing to me because they are more plentiful and more likely to bite. Plus pike are prettier. The Musky here in MO look kinda blah in comparison.

Pretty exciting when you have a big one trailing one of your baits that you are doing a figure 8 by the boat! dan hufferd 1

I almost never fished for bass there but you would think the amount of time that I spent musky fishing I would have caught more. Gavin Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 Pike are nasty to deal with but its fun too catch a big one. Musky fight harder. Would head north if you want a decent shot at one. My friend Bill caught a 50" on a fly on the upper Mississippi north of the Twin Cities. Took him about 14 days to catch a 50". We hooked into several and landed two on a 4 day canoe trip on the St Croix River near Grantsburg WI. They are not a fish of 10,000 casts if you go where Musky live. River Musky are easier. Slack deep eddies near current with some wood in it. Any ambush point. You will probably hook one if the are present. Lake fishing is tougher.
Johnsfolly Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 I think that I am only at 376 casts sinve I caught this one😒. Got a few more casts before the next. Maybe this Oct. dan hufferd, Harps, Daryk Campbell Sr and 1 other 4
