Got our butts handed to us up the James yesterday  Put in at 6:30 and fished til 2:00.  Between the two of us we caught quite a few, but most were 14 inch fish.  All but the one keeper were very fat and healthy looking.

I did snap my spinnerbait rod fighting the best fish of the day.  I lost the fish obviously...  It was a Lew's TP-1 and I'd had it since they came out.  2-3 years before breaking the rod that got more use than all of my other rods seems pretty good to me but I'm now obviously in the market for another rod specifically for spinnerbaits.  I've come to you people for suggestions.  Thanks in advance!

boy, i am a very poor one to ask about that.  i have such a hodge podge of rods.  everyone that gets in the boat wonders how i fish like that.  of course, the actual action of a rod varies from one brand to the other.  no two mh action is the same from one brand to another would be a better way to put it.  but, for the most part, a mh action most often works for me most of the time.  sometimes a m depending on the brand.  i have two cabela tourney trail im8 blank mh that work for me for a spinner bait.  i have an old basspro pro qualifier im8 mh that i use for fishing jigs because it is slightly a stiffer action than the cabela rods.  i do not know if the manufacture of cabela rods will change now that bp bought them, but i have used them over the years and have really liked them.  there are so many rods on the market that it is hard to choose from.

here is another idea.  rock springs tackle in harrison ark. makes rods from start to finish.  julie told me that they will even custom make a rod.  you might want to take the time and make a trip down there and see what they have.  i have put some of their rods in my hand and i liked the feel and action.    since i like a fore grip on a rod, and they have all seemed to have disappeared, they are most likely to build me a rod the next time that i buy one.

IMO a spinnerbait rod needs to be less than 7' for all day one-handed accurate pitch-casting.   Doing that all day with a 7'+ rod would be a wrist and forearm killer.

i am a wimp and use both hands.
