My daughter had one of her best years. She reared and released over 20 monarchs and 5 swallowtails :D!

So is my Thanks!  I've seen a few.  Nothing like what it was back in the '60's and 70's when I got ate up with biology and the other earth sciences  learning what this world is like.

Just had a bunch fly by the front yard, maybe 40-50 monarchs, not all in one big cluster but 2 or 3 at a time, went on for 10 minutes or so, just saw a couple more.  Must have been hunkered down while the front was moving through.  There's another one.

Back in my internet dating days I was spending time with a nice (but rather odd) gal that was totally coo-coo about butterflies.  Her house was filled with butterfly stuff, her screen saver was a butterfly, and she even had a beautiful butterfly tattoo on her shoulder.

So we go out for a boat ride on a gorgeous fall day, and as we idled along a bluff bank we came across a tree that was loaded with Monarchs that all took flight as we passed under it.  She took it as "a sign" and cranked up the Love volume to a whole new, and unexpected, level.  It was great for a week or so but after I had a chance to think things through it began to get kinda scary.   I finally had to send her a pic of a praying mantis eating a butterfly....just to slow things down a bit.  A week later she took a job in Texas and we parted friends.  Now everytime a butterfly hangs around me I tell it "Hey there, the one you're looking for is in Lubbock".

Isn't that a cute story?  😊

Just perfect.

Was it the smoke from that 2 Stroke that stirred them up? 🙄
