I am wanting to get on a good fall while bite but the wind will come out of the south then west then north then east.   It makes it so hard to get a pattern.

I located some Thursday (14) took Friday off for business then with a good north wind (42) Saturday.   Now the wind is changing again.

I have my best days on the 3rd day that the wind is out of the same direction.

I keep hearing guys say that and I can't help but think that the "wind pattern" is merely in your head.  I don't know Stockton Whites at all, but where I fish the wind direction has no effect whatsoever, so I actually prefer it to be calm.   Shad are everywhere regardless of how the wind blows. The Whites here certianly don't need wind to help them find food.

Is the shad population kinda low on Stockton ?

FW - Pay attention to the wind direction, if it is from same for three days, you will not believe the fish that stack up along the shore. Back when I could still walk the rocky banks at the Bona bridge you could catch a limit hasta-pronto. I have seen people beach their boats so they could catch some. The fish wanted the jig moving in to the shore. Real fun with a fly rod and a 1/16 chart. jig. Hope for 10+mph for those three days. Try it, you will like it.

I remember the advice given several years ago on Pomme.  Wind from the same direction 3 days in a row and you will have all the white bass you want to.play with.  Everybody has different techniques and methids, up the river it's different current can be a key, there is a bank about 100 yards long on LOZ that if the wind hits it for a couple days he whites and hybrids are so close to the bank you can literally crawl a white jig off the rocks and into the water about 2 feet max before one will smack it, occasionally that white will run right past the boat and head for open water, screaming drag the whole way, and quickly becomes obvious it a nice hybrid.  Man I wish I was there now catching them.

Mopan I am probably the guy you heard that from when Pommy was lousy with them.  Those were good times.

Today the south wind took yesterday's banks out of play.  Fish were scattered and from 2 to 20 feet deep.  Had to cover lots of water.  Only windy points produced.  Managed 33 whites and 5 blacks in 5 hours.

Yep.  You even took me out on morning.  Whites are making a comeback on Pomme, but nothing like those years yet.  Though some days they are an annoying presence when crappie fishing, but have made more than one busted crappie trip into a heck of fun day.  You tried to explain/teach float n fly to me but I never could get it.

I have caught whites on Stockton when it was VERY windy, when it was dead calm, and when it was in between. Sure, if the wind is blowing from one direction for days at a time it will pile the bait fish up on one side, and the whites will be all over them. Anybody can catch them then. Just learn to go with the flow. It keeps you on your toes trying to keep up with them, but its still a ball. The wind direction can change 10 times in a day, you just have learn to follow the fish. Gary and I went Thursday and we had to move around a lot to stay on them.....so that's what we did. We even caught a few walleye, blacks, and drum to keep us entertained.  Don't miss out waiting for the fish to come to you......
