mixermarkb Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 The pre rap warts were molded in two halves, and glued down the middle. Back then, they had a lot of slop in the tolerances, and the seam was very noticeable, like you can see on the bill on this bait. IMHO, it is a pre rap wart, with a really pretty paint job.

Now, the sloppy joint of the seam is what some guys claim is part of the magic of the old wart, and cause them to “hunt” better than the new ones. It also caused some of them to roll and be totally un-tunable and useless. Hopefully this one is a hunter, and not a roller, but like so many things in life... ”ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances” Ham, magicwormman, snagged in outlet 3 and 1 other 3 1

I was shocked by the price but the color is something I’ve never seen before.
mixermarkb Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 I actually think the price is pretty reasonable, I've seen custom painted pre-rap warts in the $50 range, on a regular basis. I'm not in on baits at that price anymore, wife and kids and life have caught up to me, but as far as market price goes, he's not that far off, IMHO.
Ham Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 I don’t think the price is reasonable at all, but it is where the market is at. mixermarkb 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Champ188 Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 That paint job doesn't look the greatest to me. Neither do the hooks and split rings. Suggestion: Take two of your own Warts (new Original series works just fine), remove the hardware and send them to Hughes Custom Lures, along with a pic of this bait. He will paint them up for you … much better than this bait … for $12 each. Shipping is $7 per order for a total of $31 for two baits. Put your own choice of trebles and split rings when you get them back. Tim is a member here on the forum … goes by Hughesy. Quillback, vernon, snagged in outlet 3 and 5 others 8

I actually like to buy old beat up warts and try them out before sending them to Tim Hughes. He is the best in the business and paints lots of baits for several Pros all over the country.
abkeenan Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 Count me in on the crowd that has been priced-out by the Pre-Rap Warts. Haven't bought a Pre-Rap in about 7 years or so when they really started getting out of control. Lots of GREAT alternatives to Pre-Raps out there now with manufacturers trying to not only cash in on that market but also building baits that mimic the older warts at a more affordable price point.
