Where we goin?  I'm in.

It's a long standing joke that I drive all over the Midwest chasing the mystical white bass run and I've never seen one when I get there.  Last trip to Swan Creek on Bull Shoals I caught a trout during the white bass run.   Never saw a one.   I call it "The White Bass Run me outta gas":D

Hah!  We sometimes consider them a nuisance fish at LOZ when chasing largemouths.  Fish about any windy point Aug-Oct and they seem to be there, but ya...target them and they will disappear quick.  White's are on top of my list for favorite fish to eat still, Walleye would hold that spot if I could catch them frequently enough.

I'll guarantee when I get there you won't find em...

in the past i would instantly say smallmouth in an Ozark stream. But after catching some nice hybrids this year i was amazed at how hard they hit and fight.

Makes me want to catch a bunch more.

Same here. I love trout and smallies, but if I had to pick just one then it would probably be hybrids. They fight like crazy and also make great table fare.

I've never seen a white bass in or or near water, I ate some once and have to say they aren't worth spending much effort on. Like all fish, just something to put in your mouth.

One fish, eh? Long Ear  - not my favorite fish, I don't think I have a favorite; but Long Ear are beautiful colors, easy to find, easy to catch, easy to release and as good to eat as any fish. I could also say I'm fishing for Long Ear and the same flies would catch so many other fish large and small.  ;)

We don't have white bass out this way. We just have their smaller cousins, the white perch, and their larger cousins, striped bass. Been easy to find so far. Might even be able to put @snagged in outlet 3 on some, of course it is about 900 miles to get out to me. So it won't save him any gas !

I think there are lots that are my favorite at different times.  Crappie in fall and spring, walleye, white and hybrids, bluegill on a fly rod for simple fun, goggle eye for the beautiful locations, smallies for fun and location.  Heck I have even been know to target the lowly trout (been a LONG time though), even been on more than one trip targeting carp when younger they are a hoot for kids to hook into.  The oe thing I have never caught and always wanted to is a spoonbill, went once but no joy.  I just don't have the equipment or knowledge to target them.

Sound like it might actually save him some gas in the long run, so to speak.
