that has been my issue with this ever since they starting surveying anglers at the boat ramps. I don't think the general public can tell the differences. may be a record year for tickets handed out at the ramps when folks have 5 LM in the live well at the end of he day and they get checked.

I agree, I thought that as well, and I expressed it when I was surveyed.

I bet there is some money to be made here.

I don't have trouble telling the difference between to two, but I know some that do.

A spotted bass is still a bass to me.

There do seem to be plenty of them.

Table Rock and Beaver spotted bass are real easy to tell apart from the LM's.  I could see someone having problems the first few they caught, but once you've caught a few it gets pretty obvious.

Ha Ha! MDC, mistakenly using the wrong picture (probably by their outreach folks, not biologists), caused all of this conversation about the differences between the black bass species. Smacks of a Trump tactic using the gullible media to increase public awareness! Really it's not hard to tell the outward difference between the species unless they are pulled from muddy water, then it is back to looking at those more definitive antatomical differences.

Also, with the general public sentiment that supports catch and release, there probably is not as much need for minimum length limits on LMB as there once was.  And, there is the issue of mercury that bio-accumulates to higher concentrations in the larger fish (especially in some water bodies), which makes the smaller fish more healthy!

TO All,

After all the posts I have made to this subject.....................  I haven't read this forum for a few days............................... if the 12" length limit is true for Stockton then I must have died and went to heaven ???? Bring it on for Table Rock too..................  save our Bass fishing please !!!!!!!!!!!!

If there's a mix of white bass and crappie fried together, I always tell people to eat the white bass first.

Guy that lived down the road from me that passed away a few years ago always used to tell me that he could fry fish so well that nobody could tell the white bass from the other types of fish.  I always gave him a hard time about that.

Bob says the same thing about white bass and I take your stand.  Only maybe a little further.  I swear they ruin the grease.
